Spring Fever- When will your car hit the streets again?
Well I am so sick of this weather that I tried to will in the Spring temps. I was ready to pull the snows of the bimmer this weekend right after I fire up the FD for the season.
The FD fired up 1st shot on Saturday. I rolled it on to the driveway while running and got out to lift the hood. The car wasn't ready to idle yet so she died. Stupid move. I flooded the engine royally trying to restart her. Battery wasn't fully charged either so it was a stupid plan to begin with. Anyhow, had to get the car pushed back in with the help of the Mrs. and my neighbour. Neighbour got a good kick out of it.
Well I try and find my spare plugs from my FC days and nothing. I think I gave everything away. I call up Jim K. who doesn't hold any punches and tells me I am a **** but offers me some plugs.
I pick them up and then fast forward to today. I pull the plugs, which we're still drenched two days later. Cleared the chambers of excess fuel and charged the battery. I got back out to start her up and I vow not to have a similar experience to Saturday. She fires up on 1st crank again and I hold the idle at 1500 for a minute to be safe. She idles perfectly rock solid after that. I am chuffed. I take her to the end of the street to the car wash and park her back in the garage. I come inside all chuffed. You think the story ends here but it doesn't.
A couple of hours pass and it is time to put the kids to bed. It is a school night.
I get them snug in bed and the Carbon Monoxide detector goes off. The kids think this is great, the wife not so much. I am dangling on a stool precariously close to the 2nd floor banister trying to reset the damn detector. I finally clue in that this thing is hard wired into the house. Anyhow, the house is freezing at this point since my wife has opened every door and window. I head to the electrical panel in the basement but the bulb blows in the furnace room. I go back to the garage to find a flash light. Pass wife in hall, she's still clearly unimpressed. Back at the panel I can't find anything labelled CO2 sensor. So I pull the main fuse. Thankfully it works. But then I have to reset every bloody memoryless clock in the house.
Moral of the story is you can't push mother nature. Rotaries will set of CO2 sensor even with the garage door open. That said I am pulling the winters of the bimmer next weekend and doing some more work on the FD. We'll see what happens.

Probably by the beginning of May. My FC is in way many pieces to hope for any sooner.
I still have a whole rear end and drive train to install, but the main problem is I'm not getting any fuel flow, it's baffling me.
Once I get past those couple hurdles it shouldn't be so bad.

While it's finally sunny today, we still have snowbanks above our heads... So 3rd or 4th week of April I'm hoping.
Are we pushing the Ottawa meet into June this year? I seem to remember some folks last year saying that moving it forward a week or two would be a good idea to help get us some good weather.

Had my car out yesterday for a two hour run in the morning and a half hour in the afternoon. Checking out the new cams (yes, my engine has pistons!), improved intake, motor mounts, camber plates (well, I won't really know the benefit of that until a proper alignment) and I'm ready for the snow to really melt!
Actually, I'm still in the closet, working on a build-up thread, just to bug you.
You should probably invest in your own street-sweeping company. I can garuntee it would get the job done faster and better.
^ I hear ya! I just took my -SE for a blast around the block, and I forgot how quick it was. That, or I became used to how slow my A4 is. Punching the pedal to the floor put a huge grin on my car. I missed the wicked sound of the RB exhaust at WOT!
I don't know when it'll be out on the road though. It's going to the hospital for a new heart, a new brain, and stronger legs... haha. I have exams so I'll be able to really start working on it at the end of April. I've got a lot of work ahead of me.

That is if the snow ever melts.
