Spent the Day at the New CTMP DDT

All I can say is............ whoooo boy. You guys will have some fun and its about twice as fast as the track was before. Get good shocks, aero and brakes, you will need it.

Longest pit lane in the universe.

Teaser just for you guys. Turn 2 is a high bank but if you use it you will crash and burn, LOL.

Seriously, I was busy all day as a lead instructor training newer instructors so didn't get any time to shoot pictures. If anyone is interested I could walk you through each corner and what to do. It is way more of a racetrack now versus a lapping track. Its wider, the newer corners are really cool, lots of blind corners and elevation changes and one of the fastest parts of the track is all downhill with a hairpin corner at the end. I may be doing the OTA Time Attack School as an instructor May 3/4th if I can get out of work commitments. If I do, I will bring the pig out to play during open lapping sessions.

Enjoy;

From the video, really hard to see what they'd done without the old reference points. Does not look any wider than it was, but the new tarmac looks great, big improvement.

Is this the new layout which incorporates the old oval?

You are right, it is hard to judge anything without the old reference points. The Turn 2 high bank is the remains of the old southern banking from the oval. At the end of the banking it doesn't flow cleanly off the banking onto the next straight, it just sorta stops and you have to move right quickly.

The track is supposed to be wider, but it feels narrow still in a lot of places. Almost all of the old track area is single file, especially the downhill section, but they have opened up the corners some. This allows you to carry a ton of speed down into the hairpin.

Other interesting tid bits. The new section up top is still pretty undulating and you need to be careful going into Turn one as it would be easy to lock the rear brakes and straightline into the wall. The corners are really technical so it will be a great learning track. The asphalt is really grippy, but a lot of the corners seem off camber so you need to be careful. At this time, there are few Reference Points, so you end up using rocks, puddles, mounds of dirt, etc... A number of the corners are really interesting as you need to take them in a series of turns, maybe even sacrificing a corner or two in the sequence to go faster overall. The track is way faster than it was before and good grip and aero may be just as important or even more important than HP.

Also, to me, it seems like a great Time Attack or lapping track. I don't know how it would be as an actual race track.
