I should have just waited, that 2nd gen is an excellent purchase! Either of these cars and a competent driver = faster then 23Racer and 01Racing! lol This is not a for sale post by myself, just general interest for Cheers, Ian, 20B3Rotor, and on and on...

Beg to Differ/ Not Trying to Flame
Jason, I know both of these cars very well. The 2nd gen car is very very stock and was built by a guy in London out of an Alberta chassis and has never hit the track with the new suspension bits. It still has old stock shocks, sway bars and my old cut down springs. The car needs a ton of work before it would be faster than a 1:45. The engine is a Danny Manning very mild streetport and was buzzed so high once that it threw the counter weight off the flywheel (actually this says a lot about the quality of a Danny Manning Motor that it would still run). The body is very rough. The cars fastest lap at Mosport was a 2:23 in the dry. A project that would take a bunch of work.
The 3rd gen has the potential to be very fast and it has a ton of very good parts. Its fastest lap 2 years ago (last time it ran in Ontario) was a 1:37, just half a second a lap faster than me. David Shep pulled a 1:35 out of it on slicks in 2000, I believe. It is a good car with some setup, should be capable of going a ton faster.
I was called out with the first post and want to let you all know that I am expecting to get down to the low 1:36's this year and maybe the high 1:35's and I can run consistent 1:38's (about 7 seconds a lap faster than the 2nd gen with a stock engine). Al should be right there as well, though he has to worry about breaking out. Not saying that the cars aren't worth a look, but I would really look at the 3rd gen and try to dicker with the 2nd gen guy a bit before taking a look at it.

By the way I seriously doubt 186 mph at Mosport for the 3rd gen. That is ALMS GT1 speeds. I don't doubt that properly set up that it could do a 1:30 flat. 3rd gens are hot cars and that one is a steal at $16,500.

Go Hard....or Go Home
Ouch Jason! Lets see, 186mph up the back straight at Mosport, hmmmm I guess the guys with 2700lbs tube chassis cars and 700+HP would be pissed when a turbo 13B in stock chassis went by them by about 20mph! My friends state of the art Trans-Am car goes about 166mph up the back straight. The only way that 3rd gen RX-7 would go that fast was if it was shot off an aircraft carrier. God bless the guys who beat Eric and I in their RX-7's. It would be great if they actually showed up to race and blew us away. So far on either track (Mosport or Shannonville) the only RX-7 that has been faster than me was a 2nd gen P-Port that hasent run with us in the last 2 years. Every time i go to a lapping day and test someone comes up and asks my lap times. When I tell them, they are always 2-3 seconds faster than me, except I usually lap them every 4-5 laps. My point is I BOUGHT a turn key race car that went 1:36's at Mosport. EXCEPT that it did that for one lap and then crashed on the next one. When i got the car, not only would it not turn 1:36's at Mosport, it wouldnt stay running on a right hand turn. It has taken us 2 years and a blown up engine to try and get the set up correct, and I still have a steep learning curve. Either car is a great starting point, but dont expect it to be set up right and fast out of the box. Ask if you can test drive it---bet the answer is no--ask why it hasent run a couple of years or more----hmmmmmmm. Both cars are great deals for what they are, just keep in mind you will probably spend $ 4000 - $ 5000 on top to get it right. And if you come and out blow us away---we would be happy to have a couple of more rotaries in our respective fields!
