ON So, My life just hit the fan.

Well guys, this will be an about my shitty life type of rant, just a warning.

Dec 14: My birthday turned 21,worked night shift so I couln't drink
Dec 15: Lost my job
Dec 16: Went out to my shop to find my tools and random stuff were stolen, and a few wierd things.

the backdrop:
Almost a year ago a couple friends and I found a shop, crazy cheap, with a bit of a sketchy owner.

we moved our things in slow, as to test how sketchy the guy was. After a couple months things seemed fine. Life was good till about a month ago. 2/3 of my friends bailed leaving me alone to pay the rent. I didn't mind as paying more to have a cleaner shop/less bs was worth it.

today I show up, and cant find my top box. then i start looking around, and more things are gone... paper towel, shop towels, lock-tite, all my tools except for an impact socket set and 2 rubber mallets. Thing get weirder. I notice my selection of alcohol in the fridge is untouched, a door handle is added to the front door and my bottom box, air compressor and shop crane are all where they should be.

I call my contact.. phone is disconnected
He gave me no last name, i supposed no last name is the same as a false name.
I believed he owned the property... I find garbage bags on his deck, his house empty.
I call the township, the property is owned by a development company.
I call the development company and leave a message explaining whats up.
I call the police, an opp comes and rubs in the fact I didn't know my contact.

SO.

In the end I'm left with no tools, a roller FC3S with boxes full of s5 parts, an Isuzu trooper that's minty with parts from 2 motors, one motor in the process of rebuilding (machined block and heads, new pistons rings rods in block, everything but crank valve train new...

If I get lucky, the land developer took my tools and might give them back, i am forced out.

If I'm not lucky, more **** goes missing until I get everything out/sold and I am left with no shop, no tools and a bunch of parts and vehicles.

What do you guys have to say? I don't want to hear "don't rent from sketchy people" because other than this, he has been the best landlord I've had.

I'm just confused.

I don't even know. Did you keep receipts (of the tools you owned that were stolen AND of the rent being paid)?

He did he not complain if you were loud? If you made a mess of the place? Or if you paid your rent a little late once and a while? It was never his place to begin with! He was ripping you off!!! How about you move into a random abandoned building by my house and pay me rent? I'll be the best landlord you ever had lol . ......... Ok ok I think that was mean. Your situation sucks and I do deal bad that you were so trusting and was taken advantage of. I would love to see you find the guy and have it all play out on judge Judy lol

All his contact info and related should be on the lease you signed. Send a registered letter to all of his addresses, workplace, etc.

Other then that I have no specific advice. It's an odd situation...he was renting to you a shop he didn't own and was squatting in the house?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but did you have any insurance to cover your rented shop?

He was living there, for almost a year. I think its more likely that he was renting and fucked off on the landowner.

Or how about i move into a shop directly behind your house, on your property. you let me use your truck if i need to move **** or whatnot(05+ram 1500 no plates...... -.-) I'll party with your daughter and her friends once in a while. I never pay rent late, and sometimes pay it a day or two early if you need it early.

someone was almost always home, and they used to have a big dog protecting my stuff. a family pet. in the last half of the year, his mother was living with him because she had cancer.

The only thing sketchy about him was his info. first name, cash deal. big man full of tatoos which on a couple occasions led on he was an angel, never said directly though.

heres another example. fall came around, I asked for the gas to be turned back on. he told me some township guys were around and turned it off. he'll have it back on asap. Next time i was out, heat was on.

The Tandy cocksuck, which stipulated in our contract that heat was included in our rent, installed a heater after months of us bitching/threatening in the middle of december last year.

some of the tools, like my brand new CT torque wrench yes. other tools that ive had for years, or was gifted, no.

rent was cash deal, no paperwork in that.

He was allowed to enter the unit without your permission and prior-arranged appointment? So he probably had a key...That sucks. Generally the landlord is not allowed to enter the unit (may even be law) without prior 24 hour notice to the tenant. When I moved into my shop, I changed all the locks and the owner of the building got a sealed envelope with the keys in it that we all signed across the flap.

You can always take him to small claims court, but you will need evidence on your side of course. If he has disappeared you'll probably get default but a fat lot of good that will do...

stop now, join the military for a few years and go to college on their coin; you win and the looser who took your stuff is still a looser.

That's exactly what I'm thinking minus the education part. It seems every winter I look to join, maybe this will be the year. I even dug out the forms a couple hours ago.

Anyways, I got my tools back... except for a couple things, and the real landlord let me pay rent till feb1, so I have that time to junk/sell my stuff. My 7 will probably be scrapped as I did some irreversible things to it, while trying to make my dream happen.

I'll be getting out of the car game for sure.

If anyone is in need of s5 parts, I'll have a thread up soon with some goodies.

Military is a pain to be in, I started in March last year. Just get used to waiting, my trade training doesn't start until the end of May of this year, which I'm trying to skip, but that's another story. After basic, the schools (well, Kingston) is just more BS, but I spend a few months at an actual base (Petawawa) and they definitely have their stuff together and it's totally different, it's nice compared to being at a school or on PAT. Kingston doens't have their **** together. Depending on the trade you want, some people get in within a few months, some wait a year or more. I don't know if I ever do it again, but it could be worse, could of still been unemployed (was a year and a half before I started in the military) It's not what I was expecting it to be, but it's easy to say it's stupid when you're at the bottom being fed BS. I've seen how much better things are afterwards, it's the waiting part that's hard.

Things will come around, there will be up and downs, for every down there will be an up. Whether it will be soon or late, you'll definately get better karma.
Hustle.
