Have you done the basic maintance stuff ? does your car still have the air pump ?

Do the basics and burn through the old gas run 94 ,

new plugs
plug wires
fresh gas
and working air pump and cat shoudl do the trick

Azad is probably right, air pump and basic maintenance usually works unless there have been mods.
What is failing?
Some people will add loads of additives that are probably bad for your engine.
You might also consider putting a second (short) aftermarket catalytic converter in line replacing a single pipe.

One other trick you might try is to run on the leading plugs only based on some published Mazda info.

Lame - I also discovered a coolant leak this week. Although in my case I think the reservoir is the problem. Either way, hope its an easy fix!

I don't want to scare you guys but those are typically the symptoms of early coolant seal failure. Out of the blue, after a drive, coolant overflows from the overflow tank (under the passenger side headlamp area). After the engine has had time to cool off, the low coolant light comes on and you have to top-up again. At first it happens very rarely but eventually you can't drive the car without coolant spilling out the overflow tank.

Here's why: When the seal goes bad, exhaust gas (air really) finds its way into the coolant system. This easily pressurizes the system beyond 13psi which means a healthy portion of your coolant ends up in the overflow tank and on the road.

This is a typical FD "problem" and usually occurs from 80,0000 to 120,000kms. I say "problem" because it happens to almost everyone so really it's more of an FD operating cost. It's the main reason why people who know about FD's look for freshly rebuilt FD's with higher kms instead of lower km cars with original engine. It's also why alot of people on the forum argue that buying JDM isnt really a bargain because you have to factor the 5k rebuild into your cost.

Urgh... I'm getting mine up on a lift tomorrow to take a closer look behind the fender wall. I'm really hoping it's just old plastic... car is at 140 000 KM though so who knows... fingers crossed I guess.

She just got a rebuild at 138000 and at 141 000 now. I dont know who did the rebuild though. However i still think the car lacks something in the higher RPM like 6 and up. Another possible sign? I'll keep my eye on that to. Thanks

When it comes to FD's, loss of power at high rpm is not commonly a bad motor. It's most likely a turbo problem or might even be normal, so you're safe for now! haha

Do you have a boost gauge? What does it read at higher rpm? Canadian spec ecus drop to 8psi by 5.5-6k rpm.

Spotted - a red FD on Monday night in the Canadian tire parking lot on Coventry road. Now admittedly I was going a little too fast to get a good look, as I was late for a date, so I could be wrong but I am almost positive that it was in fact an FD. Just curious if it was anyone on here.

No i dont have one yet... looking though.. If the turbo's are bad would that explain why sometimes the boost doesn't engage at the same time(happens rarely but still not cool)

If it's not RX7 RACE I have an idea of who it is. The red fd have a 99 front bumper and carbon hood he's not a member on this forum tho. But recently i've been seeing some white fds around ottawa one was driving down aviation parkway anyone know this owner?

What do you mean when you say boost doesnt engage at the same time? Boost pattern is a strange thing on FD's. A lot of little things people think are problems are actualy normal.

I'm pretty sure that I saw RX7 RACE last night on Ogilvie. I was in my FD so I followed him onto the 417 (I was excited as it was my first time running into another seven). Unfortunately, the girl I was with was not as excited by the idea so I could only catch up and wave

As for the white FD its probably me
