Ottawa Mechanics - Pace Autosport Where are you?
It seems that right now, I have more money than time (But not a ot of either) and have to consider sending my car to a mechanic to get some brake and fuel line work done - or at least get an estimate. While in Ottawa, the only person who has worked on my car is Craig Simms at Pace Autosport, but I can't find him now!
His number used to be 249-0901, but it is no longer a valid number. I knew he was moving his shop, but there is no Pace Auto in the yellowpages anymore. Did he change the shop's name? Anyone know? Craig is a member here (Froger) but he is rarely or never online. I've sent him a PM, but chances are he wont get it.
Other than that, what garages in Ottawa do you trust? I am also considering just taking a day off work and doing all the work myself, but right now I want to find out what a mechanic would charge.
Thanks

fluid lines aren't really rx-7 specific, so you could take it to any reputable shop.
i don't really know where those are in the Ottawa area, as i've never sent my car to one.
but last resort, i'm sure if you look up auto brake service in the yellow pages you could find some decent shops.
maybe try getting the parts yourself though?

Honestly, if I had the time to get the car in the air and assess what parts I need - I'd just do the job. Trouble is that right now I don't even have a place to work on the car! My entire street has been torn up and my patience has worn razor thin. For the price of hard lines, the mechanic's prices for parts cant be that crazy. If I need Mazda specific lines or something, then I'll see. For now however - I just want an estimate.

Out of your way, but the only place I'll bring mine is near me in Winchester. The guys who own it had RX's of their own for a few years.
Its the only place I'll bring any car repair and for one reason - they're honest. You won't get some wild deal on price, but the work will be done right and you won't get ripped off. I think they're at 50 or $55/hr now.

Well, I took it into a local shop.
Being that it is just hard-line work and nothing else, I took it to a place that has done work on my winter car before - and I was happy with them and their work: The Mister Muffler on Bank Street. Seeing that I didn't really have any brakes (so I didn't want to drive far) and their hourly rate was 20% less than the dealer, I figured it was a good choice. I spent about 30 minutes under the car with the owner and a mechanic discussing options and such. The bottom line is that I'll get new gas and brake lines front to back, and it shouldn't take more than a few hours to do.
At least I'll have the car back in working order today, with the fuel and brake fluid leaks fixed.
I think I should invest in a lift for my garage in BC!

Got the car back and all is well.
New Brake line from the MC to the Junction by the RR caliper.
New Fuel feed line from the fuel filter to above the diff.
New Fuel return line - same place as the feed line.
Bleed brakes.
In all they did a good job, and the new tubing looks to be put in with some manner of "Pride in worksmanship". Ie it follows the stock path and is held by the stock clips. I'd reccommend them for general non rotary-specific automotive work.
So with parts and 3 hours of labour, the total was $294. while it is a lot, it was worth it to have the car back less than 24 hours later running properly, and I don't have to spend the entire weekend under my car on a gravel road in 40 degree weather.

Oh, and NO - the baby isn't mine! lol
