Ontario Emission Test for RX7 FC3S

I hear its hard to get the Rotary engine to pass the Emissions test.

At what point does the Car no longer need to pass the emissions test.

Is it 20 years or 25?

After 20yrs the car no longer needs emissions. If your car is newer than 20 years and all the stock emissions systems are working properly than you should have no problem passing an E-test.

They changed that rule, you can go to driveclean.ca but essentially, if you have a 1987 or older car, you NEVER have to do emissions ever again. If you have a 1988 or newer car, then you have to do emissions every 2 years.

stinks >.<

How often are vehicles required to go for emissions testing?

Light-duty vehicles are required to go for emissions testing every two years to renew the registration if they are five years of age or older based on their model year and of the 1988 model year or newer. Vehicles of the 1987 or older model year do not require emissions tests. Vehicles that are even model years require a test for registration renewal in odd calendar years and odd model year vehicles require a test for registration renewal in even calendar years.

No..the Cut off for Old cars Not requiring an Etest was 1987..If you have an 1988,then you are out of Luck,Period, end of sentence. It must be Emission tested from 1988 on..
That is why I sold my 1988 RX7..I didn't want to deal with Emissions.I think it's a Money Grab.
Now I Have my 86 and the Gov't can Kiss my Wankel..I'm using the Money I would spend on an Etest on a TII swap!..

Styx is right...having a car 20 years old or older is not enough...the cut-off is 1987 or older model year...so basically 88, 89, 90, 91's will *never* be free...at least the way the law is now. Who knows what they'll do with the law in the future.

Getting more back on topic...if your wankel has pretty good compression and is running right with maintenance up to date, has the emmissions crap incl. air pump, acv, and cat, you should be fine. If the cat is all screwed inside, you may need a new cat...mine passed no problem.

It's not as bad as it sounds. If you've been maintaining the car properly, you should be fine, unlike some people you see on the street, wasting money on **** to put on their cars, running like ****.

i have a 93 no problem passing.
if it is in your name and it dose not pass all you must do is put $400 in to the car and if you know the shop you can put the $400 on any part you want.

if it is not in your name you must pass the test no way around the paper work.

Many of you have stated that the cutoff was 1987... I have gotten into some heavy arguments over that. (I was on the 87 side)

I asked the MTO chick last time I was in and she said 1988s don't require. I believe its 1988... Or at least in KW... I know some of the laws change due to geographic location.

Just move to Bruce County, no e-test required at all for anyone. It's awesome. I kind of want to e-test my car though and see how bad it is. We have the equipment to do e-testing at the college I go to. My car has the air pump removed and I run a magnaflow catalytic convertor.

Same here, no e-testing in the great white north. And rest assured, if they started enforcing it, there would be some reckless ghetto-moms that would have to cut Tim Hortons out of their lives in exchange for newer vehicles.

.Please Trust Old Mr Styx on this one.I hate paying any Gov't ****..and I got an 86 because I didn't want to pay for Emissions...and I wouldn't have got the 1986 back in DEC 2005,IF it had to be Etested in 2006..See where I am going here?(it was a 20 year old car in Jan2006,I didn't register it until then!).The Cut off for 20 year old cars came after that.so the 1987 model didn't require an Etest..then Law was Solidified..any car after 1987 requires an Etest..(My freakin Dodge Truck is an 89..But hey,it's what I wanted in a truck!).
Now all that "crappola" I just posted is in Emission Areas.
There are Test free zones, like Bruce County,a little out of the Mainstream of the GTA.
The GTA is a heavily populated area,so they concentrate on Cars being Decently tuned(hence Etest) to keep the Air "breathable".
Ottawa area Cars need etests, but I am sure that Almonte/Arnprior Pembroke doesn't require Testing..You would have to look it up on the Driveclean web site.

Yea any area the government classes as a heavily populated area is subject to the driveclean laws. It's strange though how they map it. I know of people around here that live right on the cutoff line. They're house is on one side of the line, and they're barn and sheds are on the other. They have to e-test they're vehicles because their "residence" is within the driveclean area.

They should slap #1 on the Barn and #2 on the house, and tell the MTO they moved to unit 1!!!
