Ontario caravan to Deal's gap

Well with the other thread getting so huge I thought maybe we should start a new one incase anyone else wants to join but doesn't want to read 10 pages of stuff

Maybe we should hook up with some of the MI people on the way down too.

When's everyone want to leave? late on the 10th? late on the 9th? Really really early on the 11th?

As I mentioned before if anyone wants to come as far as my place (which is almost halfway from kingston) and spend the night that isn't a problem.

I will make a post on xceedspeed (the michigan car board) with a link to here incase there's more MI people interested in going.

Anyways, lets get this figured out!

I think this thread should be a poll, might make it simpler'er

My vote would go for leaving *at some point in the day* Thursday getting partway down (basically just get across the border and into/through MI) and crashign at whatever motel we find along the way/when we get tired. Complete the last leg friday with lots of time to diddle around and without having to wake up at 4:30am or something. You know, just taking it easy. This will after all serve as a semi-vacation for me, so I'd like to rest a bit

And as far as leaving goes, we could either all mett at Terrh's or at some place west of the border at whatever time thursday (noon, mid morning, doesn't matter.........my vote would be to cross the border around noon for traffic ) and then just start heading it down.

In regards to meeting more cars I'm totally up for adding to the caravan, but at the same time depending on too many other people can also make failure/organization that much harder....so I'd suggest something along the lines of "we'll be at X an Y between 10:00am -10:30am, we leave at 10:30 if you miss us too bad so sad" just to avoid as much confusion as possible............thats my suggestion.

that sounds like a good idea.

border traffic seems to be COMPLETELY random. I'm sure that it's worst between 7am and 9am (going to the US), but sometimes at noon it's backed up for an hour and other times you're the only guy there. PERSONALLY if we are leaving (here) thursday than later would be better, there's 12 hours of driving and 30 hours (at least) before we could check in, let's try and cross the border at windsor around say 4-5PM? There aren't many people from detroit that work in windsor so crossing into the USA at that time shouldn't be bad.

At the end of the 401 as you get into windsor and it turns into normal town boulevard, just before the bridge maybe 1KM or so, at the intersection of tecumseh and huron church (the 401 is huron church) on the right is a mall with a shell gas station, tim hortons and etc, maybe if we meet by the road just before the shell in the mall parking lot, that would be a good spot.

I'm up for whatever the majority wants, however I only booked off Thursday to Monday, so if I'm late getting home from my last run I won't be ready to leave Thursday night. That's the day I plan to get packed and do a last check of the car, pack my tools and collect last minute stuff. Of course I can always grab someones number and call and meet up later. If I'm ready on time, leave Thursday is fine. If I'm late, the speedo goes to 220, so I'll be able to really test out the new carb I'm also cool with meeting up with some more people, but I don't want to be hanging around waiting.

Im with Classicauto, leave thursday and crash across border. This also offers a great chance to give our cars a quick check up somewhat into the journey (which im sure my car will be requiring).

What we should do is get each others numbers in case. People that leave later probable will catch up to those who may leave early.
I took the thursday off and would like to leave in such a way as to not rush and just chill.

OK, lets have a VOTE.

everyone post your PREFERRED LEAVING TIME FROM WINDSOR, so figure out when you want to leave your house, and add for driving time from there to windsor.

I'll abstain, since I don't really care either way, IMO I could drive there in one shot, but I'll go with whatever everyone else wants to do.

Leaving around 8 - 8:30pm on Thursday would be good. How is the traffic in Windsor from the Toronto area?

The only traffic you should have to worry about is the 401 in your area, generally it is between light and mid range traffic, aside from maybe Kitchener-Waterloo. Otherwise it's pretty easy to deal with at any time from there to Windsor.

I'm OK with leaving whenever, I'm close enough to the Windsor, so it doesn't really matter. Also the 75 is littered with hotels/motels all the way down, in pretty much any fair sized town, so we won't have to go far. I suggest getting to Dayton, then leave there around 9 the next morning to miss Cincinnatti retard traffic. At least getting south of Toledo is a must.
