Powered by a mid-mounted, three-rotor Mazda 20B rotary engine fueled by E100 ethanol, the Furai generates around 450 horsepower. As expected, it's rapid. Even without its aerodynamic front splitter (a measure to prevent damage to this one-off showcar), the cornering grip is substantial, while even earplugs can't control the crescendo of sound from the rotary engine. Bach kept things tidy and clean in the corners, as the Furai we're sharing is the same one that will occupy the stage at the Detroit auto show.

Wow. The first time I saw the shots, I was not a fan of the styling. However, seeing the finished product... Damn! I hope this one goes to production.
I wonder how long it will be before folks start parting these things out? One of these motors would be nice in my 10th

Its possible mazdas new rx8 will have the same design principles. But the furai is a full out race car, I mean you could hear the tranny from a mile away! Might be a new lemans competitor?
Yea, Mazda is going to have to do a lot of work to make that into a road car. It will never happen. Its more of a platform to show off their design abilities. Hell, its built on a race car chassis,
Unless they intend on using that car to compete in the LMP classes, there's no way it'll be allowed to race in any other LeMans class without it having been a production car with x amount of cars built for street use. I've heard something along the lines of the old (OK, well not that old)BMW M3 GTRs running a production car with an engine that was not a production option (a v8), they got away with it for a little bit then Porsche brought it up to the sanctioning body that the GT classes were for production cars and the engine they were running wasn't an M3 production engine and the sanctioning body ruled in Porsche's favor. A few of the teams switched back to the I6 only to discover that BMW turned around and built like.... 50 v8 model M3s or something so the car met the "production car" criteria. Who knows....... The new M3s have v8s standard so maybe there was som validity to the story? I guess if you guys want a street version of this car, pray they run in the GT class.
Thats a really beautiful car. if it goes into production it's probably going to be only a few made or made to order. That car would cost to much money for the general public to buy.
