My Basement was Flooded Last Night
At around 11 pm last night while watching Knight Rider at my computer I heard some weird noise coming from the other side of the basement. I got up to take a look and what I found was very bad. The lower part of my basement was flooded about 1 foot high with murky water >.<. So I wake up my parents and go rescue my Hoosiers and dry them off. We tried calling the city but it was always busy. After calling the insurance we noticed the water was still climbing. Since the insurance contractor was gonna take a 1-2 hours we decided to put my dads wine pump to good use before the water raised high enough to reach the higher basement area with wooden floors. After getting the pump all rigged up, the water was now 2 feet high and only half a food left to reach the same height as the higher basement. The wine pump kept the water from climbing anymore so the other section of the basement was saved.
Anyway here's some pics...

Forgot to mention its the city's fault, the sewers were full and a lot of people in the neighborhood got water in the basement coming through the drains. We got the worst of it since our lower part of the basement is lower then everybody elses. After the contractor arrived he put a submersible pump with 3" hose and that drained all the water in about 1.5 hours onto the street. Then the sump pump and wine pump took care of the remaining the rest of the night.
Yah the insurance came over today and took pictures and such. They're gonna fix all the damage but aren't sure how much of the stuff is covered beyond the house repairs (since they're the contractor and not the insurance people themselves).

Whoa - thats a drag. Same happened to my parents house some years ago. Happens quik but it took quite awhile until everything was properly cleaned up n fixed. Make sure they do the drywall and insulation repairs properly so you dont get a smell or mold later on.

Damn, that sucks Marco. Lucky you were in the basement when it happened.
I probably would have started pitching anything that didn't work previously or needed upgrading into the water. (old PCs, ipods etc.)
But that would have been dishonest and I would never do any such thing.
I just hope you didn't lose anything like photographs. Someone in my family lost a house due to fire some years ago and the toughest loss was the personal pics etc.

That really sucks, Man. I just got home after a week up north. My fingers were crossed the whole time, hoping the foundation of my 100 year old house wouldn't let me down. AOK-huge relief.
