Mosport September 20 Lunch time Pace laps
Hey everyone, I have been asked by BEMC if we want to do another lunch time lapping session Sunday Sept 20 behind a pace car on the big track. The money raised would go to the Terry Fox Foundation and that is their charity of the weekend. The donation would be $20.00 and you would be guaranteed 20 minutes on track. They approached me at Mosport last weekend and I told them I would ask. We need 40-50 cars all together to make it work, I will ask the RX7, Mazda 6 and Protege clubs as they supported Mazdaspeed North. Please start a sign up list if your interested.

Al's had a brain cramp. It is September 20th. You should all come out as my RX7 will be out running in GT4 (and maybe the Cougar if I can get another trailer arranged), Al may have 2 cars out (1st and 2nd Gen cars) and I am certain there will be at least 4 other Mazdas out there. It will be a great weekend as there will be a 3 Hour race on Saturday and 20 minute races as well on Saturday and Sunday.

1rst thing. I was the only RX7 that showed up. I think there was 21 RX8s. Talk a bout being the black sheep in the group!
I didn't know what to expect since I had never been to an event like this but it was a blast. I thought we would be doing a 50km/hr cruise behind a pace car, was I ever wrong!
So here's my story.....
We are lined up to go out on the track and we are standing outside our cars. A small group of us are talking and one guy says the last time he was here there was an 8 car pile up so that's why he's at the back of the pack. Good idea I said. Its a long walk home with my family! The guy goes on to say there is a few blind turns and you need to know the lines. Ummm this is not what I thought we were doing lol.
So we head out and I'm staying way back from the guy in front of me. No way do I want to get piled up! I can't believe how fast people are given it!!!
So we make a few turns and I see one of the RX8 pulling off to the side with a ton of smoke coming out of the hood. Apparently it blew up!!!
Feeling a bit more comfortable I start to increase the speed a bit (bad idea I still have no idea where I'm going lol ). I thought I had "the line" but I clearly didn't cuz my two right tires went a bit off the track. Just enough to get my tires in the grass
On I go.... I can see I can close the distance on the straights with the car in front of me which I am happy with considering my car is not tuned and I don't really have a secondary ( I had to keep pushing in my clutch to get the revs below 3000 so it would transition again ). That should be resolved when I get my BNRs and new solenoids.
On we go. Continue to close the gap ( it was damn huge when I started out cuz I didn't want to get hit!). Rounding another turned just in time to see an RX8 spinning out!!
The lead car pulls us all off to tell us that we need to stay closer together ( no chance!!). I didn't go back out after the speach cuz I ran out of meth and I don't want to blow up like the RX8 did.
Great time, I only wish I had better tires, suspension, secondary turbo, and knew what I was doing lol.

Yea one RX8 spun right out and like I said I clipped the grass
We were moving pretty good. 170+
I know that's not fast when you are use to the track and have a decent suspension but it was for the virgin racer
Oh yah forgot to mention another RX8 over heated and had to come off.
All in all it was a blast! I can certainly see how you guys can get in to it.

After meeting a few rx8 guys I went over to their site. Looks like they are planning an event @ Shannonville.
http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=182440
Somebody from here needs to represent the 7
I might go but I definitely wont be leading the pack.

nice write up double J. the rx8 that "blew up" actually just chucked a belt. that caused the car to get really hot really fast. the pressure went up enough that the rad cap popped and doused everything, and i mean everything in coolant.
all in all, a really fun day, but there was quite a lot of drama compared to when this happened in may. first off, we had a nice drivers meeting and position was discussed. we all agreed that more experienced drivers would go first and we (the regulars that all track together) would try and organize it that way. the most experienced bunch had our order and the others were to pull in AFTER where ever they felt comfortable. well that all went to **** 2 seconds after people got in their cars. it was absolute madness. I was 1 inch behind Jays car when we were pulling out. all of a sudden like 5 cars cut infront of me before we got to the grid.
whatever, i tried to make the best of it, and with mike from the autotrader filming everythign from teh car behind me i tired a little to give a good show. my brakes got a little soft so i backed right off, and when Al pulled us into the pits i decided to not go back out in my car. After the last track day i didnt flush my brake fluid like i normally do. Also, last track day i wasnt doing cool down laps (pissed off about the rain, im sure you remember the wird) so im sure that contributed to it as well. also the lack of pad lining left...recipe for a mushy pedal i supose. haha.
that being said i still had a blast. I got to spend the second half in Als pace car with him driving, showing off as usually. lol.
"and this is how you take turn 5. downshift, brake, wipers on..." lol
thanks again Al. Hopefully we didnt screw this one up so badly that we might be able to do it again next year...hopefully. lol

Ya I would love to see the line while somebody else was driving. Just a quick comparison I watched some of the videos on youtube lol. WOW was I doing it wrong! I think I am used to video games or something. You know you hold down the gas button right till the last second, stay close to the turn, hammer the brakes and then the gas right away. Usually in a game you get a nice Tokyo drift. Some how this was clearly ineffective in real life
That was clearly the best $20 I have ever spent in my life!
Thanks Al for setting this up.
