MMO at Cdn Tire!

Hey guys, just got a call from a freind at Canadian Tire, says they are carrying Marvel Mystery Oil again, in 1 liter jugs for about $8-9.

I wonder if it's only ours, or Canadian wide?

you premix a bit into the gas and it helps to lubricate the apex seals, alot of the guys with no OMP run alot of mmo instead of other products since its designed to lubricate and burn instead of just sitting in the combustion chamber. MMO is a nice product, even makes your exhaust smell minty fresh

We had a debate in the 1st gen section a while back about whether two-stroke oil or MMO was a better premix. It brought up a lot of interesting points, and even a little bit of actual data ! Basically what it came down to is that since we don't know exactly how much lubrication the apex seals need, and we don't know how to find out the lubrication that a certain product will give when mixed and burned, it's really hard to call.

But three things that are solid are:

1. MMO is much thinner than two-stroke which is again thinner than the 10w30 our engine mixes by default

2. Two stoke is an oil which has been engineered specifically for the purpose of mixing with gas, burning off, and levaing lubrication behind while MMO has not been toted for that purpose.

3. The ratio of premix-to-gasoline is MUCH higher than the ratio of OMP oil to gasoline if you look at it from a point of view of consumption, so even the thinner MMO might be safe.

From all this, I've decided that if I premix, I'm going to use two-stroke because it's basically designed to do exactly that job.

you can read the thread in the first gen archive here:

The chart that GlazedHam42 posted is what really scared me away from using JUST MMO as premix on it's own.

As for using MMO as a casual gasoline additive or oil additive... I say go for it!

I'd love to have something like this product for the Rx-7 where you could decide how much oil you were premixing...and maybe customize it to your turbo/fuel maps.
