might buy1988 RX-7 10th AE... is it worth it??

well I found a 88 10th AE with 160K on the odo on the origional motor for 8500... the exterior is great, the interior is good... I'd like to get some thoughts, anymore questions just ask, I'm located in calgary, and yes thats 8500 CAD..... also if you know of any TII's in the area, let me know, I'm in the market

that's probably about the going rate for a clean 10AE out west.

it would probably not fetch quite that much in ontario, but if it's 100% rust free, excellent paint everywhere, decent FTP's and no work required on the interior (no excessive damage to seats, etc) I'd say it's worth somewhere in that league.. cars seem to be so much more expensive out west.

is the car bone stock? if it isn't that makes it worth less.

Wow..they are expensive out west. I just bought what I would consider a clean 10AE. Bone stock and only 120K on an original motor with a mazda rebuilt turbo and tranny in the last 2 years. Never been winter driven and the suspension is hard. I got it for a few thousand less then you are looking at.

Most people would rather a stock car and pay a premium to get one.

I don't think it's to cheap to find one in the states and bring it across into canada. are you talking about the AE on this forum with the bronze rims? or the one with the silver rims?

Hey,don't take this the wrong way. Just this is a question you should do some research on since it's kinda hard for someone to answer it for you.

Just look around you, see what price other cars are going for, (10th AE in this case or just a regular TII) and then check the car out and try and find out what you'd need to do to fix it if that's what you want to do.

Then figure out if the car is worth 8500 to YOU. Someone else may not be willing to pay more then 4000 for an excellent condition RX-7.

At least that's just my opinion. Hope that helps somehow.

Good luck.

Frank.

great advice, I totally agree, I just don't want to overpay you know.... and be the idiot out of the deal... as far as checking it out... I work at mazda, thats wher ehes getting it inspecred, i know the condition/inspection but I'm also in the black a bit with that becuase with 160K on the motor... he says its been babied... but how much life can it really have left u know... anyways, thanks for the advice guys, I'm sure that I'll love it, as long as I'm careful with the buy.

Compression Check is key to determining engine condition. Pulling the CAS and looking for dirt on the end is a good Idea too.

This is the one on AutoTrader, right?

My only comment is hopefully it hasn't been babied too much; rotary's need a little exercise for good health once in a while. I think the average life is about ~250,000 km, so 160K isn't too bad.

edit: Oh yeah, you're the Sundridge guy from Beyond. Sup

just make sure to get it inspected before you buy it and bring it up... i work at dealership, and you wouldn't believe how many people buy cars from out of province without inspecting them first, and then find out they have to put a few grand into them...

btw, that 10 ae has been in calgary for a while, i've seen it in the paper more than once, and it keeps going down in price, i seem to remember it being 10,500 once....

bought one 2 summers ago... i think that was almost stock. exhaust done and s5 ps pump... paid 8150$, oh it had 116k on it.. im around 128k now mine was also in great shape when i bought it. unfortunatly im not as good behind the wheel as i think. bumper paint reworked on vacation, clutch toasted on 5 1/4 mile runs all part of the fun!(or so i tell myself)

heres the condition when i bought it... still pretty close. so you can compare if you see the other one. i say go for it!, just so i can think i can get that for mine..
