Very interesting read, thanks for sharing.

That's positive news for the rotary engine's future.

Wonder if the housings will bolt up to our engines... probably not :P

I guess as long as the new engines bolt up to our transmissions though, I wouldn't be too upset

2 years ago or more Mazda had a bunch of Hydrogen powered rotaries running around in Japan, they were RX-8's and even a Mazda 5. Never heard what happened from there on development. I do know Mazda is severely short in cash right now, and until they find another partner or investor I dont think they will be pushing forward to heavily with R&D as that costs massive amounts of money.

So the only new information is "changing the shape of the troichoid housing" as everything else mentioned we already knew about. Too bad it doesn't go into any real detail about it as I'm curious and I hope they're not referring to decreasing the width of the housing as that isn't anything new at all as it was already included in the 16X. Good to know there are still some engineers at Mazda slowly working on it without a big budget until the higher ups decide lets build a car and dump money into a full program.

instead of changing the shape of the housings they should just tell everyone to drive it like they stole it to keep those apex seals sealing... :p

I wonder if the new plugs will be offset into the front and back irons... might give the flame-front a different path other that out the exhaust.
