ON Luke's 1990 Rx7 Build

Hey everyone! This is my car and the build im doing on it. I picked it up in Sept 2011 from a guy in Brampton who didn’t give me any information on the car so if anyone knows the car please let me know because I would like to get some history on who built it.

I am building the car as a summer day driver/time attacker!

Now on to the car…. When I bought it, it already had work done to it. It’s a 1990 base auto with turbo 2 5 speed swap.

Engine

Newly rebuilt 13BT with 3mm apex seals
Street port
Stock 550cc injectors
T4 diesel turbo
Old school GReddy front mount intercooler
GReddy blow off valve
Turbonetics wastegate
Custom welded straight pipe from turbo to dual Magnaflow mufflers
Everything blocked off except OMP
Stock T2 ECU
Autometer Boost Gauge
Oil Pressure Gague

Suspension

KYB gas adjust shocks at back
KYB GR2 shocks at front
Unknown red springs

Brakes

Single piston calipers all around
Cross drilled and vented front rotors
Solid non vented rear rotors

Wheels

Big ugly 18x8.5 Chrome Rennen Wheels (sold)
225 18 40 Infinity Tires (sold)
Sitting on cheap 17x7.5 home painted black wheels for build and storage

After months of reading the forum and talking to people at sigma events and Joe and Dave from RPM I have bought some stuff for my build

Haltech Sprint RE
GReddy Profect B Spec II Electronic Boost Controller
AEM Wideband
KOYO Rad and Electric Fan
SS Corksport Oil Cooler lines
SS Clutch line
4 Piston Front Calipers with EBC Red Stuff pads as well as Hawk HP Plus pads
Turbo II rear brakes with vented rotors
4x SS brake lines
Front and rear Strut Tower Bars
Oil Catch Can
Stock spoiler
Building a front splitter and ducting to help with cooling

Ordered and waiting to arrive

Extreme Fuel System (from rx7store) – Secondary fuel rail. Fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure gauge, ss fuel lines, fittings
1000cc Injector Dynamics Secondary Injectors
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
4x NGK Trailing spark plugs

Still need to buy

Water Temp Gauge
OMP Block Off
Battery relocate to storage bin
GASKETS!!! Hopefully wont need to use too much liquid gasket
Wheels and tires

Over the last few weeks I’ve been working on it in my garage doing tare apart and cleaning while I wait for everything to arrive.

I have taken out upper and lower intake manifolds, throttle body, intercooler pipes, ecu, engine wire harness, fuel rails and injectors, omp and injectors, rad and fan, oil cooler and lines, passenger side brakes(driver side is too close to wall ☹), cleaning and painting parts

Opinions, advice, comments all welcome! I will keep you updated with progress and pictures.

- Luke

Looking pretty good, I would suggest getting a Bosch 044 Fuel pump, the Walbros are noisy, and seem to be failing more frequently.

I have already ordered the walbro but i will keep that in mind if i have any issues with it

Thanks everyone for wishing me luck. Assuming i dont run into any major issues it should be ready in plenty of time for spring and i should be at some or all of the sigma events!

Fuel System

Today I got my fuel system and spark plugs in the mail from Rx7store. Everything looks good so far. Only question/concern is that there is a bit of an air pocket in the fuel pressure gauge. Should it be totally full of fluid or is this normal?

The gauge is sitting on a bit of an angle but you can see the line at the top where the air pocket is. Anyone know about this?

Getting close to having everything for this build and will soon be putting everything together.
I still need to get omp block off and water temperature gauge. I cant decide on what gauge to get. I was first thinking it would be nice to get one with a warning light function built in but i am thinking i may mount it on the bottom left side od the cluster (blocking the stock gauges) where it is in my immediate line of sight and my not need the warning light as much...what are the experiences of everyone else here?

A few more things came in on friday from Banzai.
AEM temp gauge using for water temp.
I havent decided yet if Im going to use water or coolant but if i use water Ive got water wetter.
And block off plates. S5 OMP and S4 kit....my lower intake manifold has subzero anyone know whats up with that? I thought that was only on S4 and the block off plate kits are put together supplying it for S4 but not S5

Work on my car has been going pretty slow with the days being short and cold. When Im home from work I dont really want to work im my cold and somewhat dark garage. I doubt I will be doing much over the winter as I will be tied up skiing in any of my spare time but once march comes I hope for some nice and warm weather so I can rebuild everything and get my car ready for time attack!

I think in Canada both the s4 and s5 had the subzero start assist. Not 100% on that though.

Which Mazda dealership gave you the 20% discount? Because I don't think Markham Mazda does...

Interesting...if thats the case Im surprised that Banzai didnt know that because the guy I was talking to was questioning why I wanted the sub zero plate for my S5. Just figured a shop that deals with that kind of stuff everyday would know(no offense to them).

Kyle Rx7 and gsxrmonster-
https://www.rx7club.com/canadian-for...embers-280911/
if you read through youll see that some do and some dont and some have changed from whatever they used to do.
I got mine from Forbes Waterloo Mazda.

I bought wheels off Graeme last night.
Blitz Type 3 17x8 offset +32
The tires are pooched so I will be watching for good sales or get some in the spring.

I gave them a quick clean today with a rag and some windex and will give them a good wash before I actually use them. I really like the 3.25" lip on them!!!!

Only one with center cap but its not the end of the world.

My secondary set of rims at the moment. I painted them with black rattle can wheel paint, did a mehhh job. Theyre only used to store the car on when im not driving it...which has been since I bought it

Swapped out the stock denso pump for the walbro. Still need to soldering wires. Is that what people here do to connect the new wires to the old ones? I am going to be running 10 gauge wire from the relay back and solder it to the stock wire clip in the trunk so its just inches of original wire.

This sucked yesterday. I got all the threaded rods out for the block off plates and the second last one snapped on me

And just the latest under the hood. Removed water pump to clean, paint, and have tapped for water temp gauge. I have the haltech harness kind of roughly laid out and soldered and heat shrunk some clips on. Also have ss oil cooler lines on.
