I myself am moving from Sydney, Australia out to either Vancouver or Kelowna! Are there any links to specific govt related websites in regards to registration and insurance of cars??? or any road rules that i should know that might be a little out of the ordinary??? Because i know there are going to be quite a few differences (main one being... i better remember to drive on the wrong side of the road )
Hope you guys are as friendly and as into your rotors as we are down here....
here are a picture of my most recent ride and a cruise that i've organised down here... i wonder if you guys get the same sort of turn outs???

Well, just got back from nine days in Vancouver - and accomplished 2 things:
1) Bought a house.
2) Verified everything in this thread.
As we wont be working downtown, and want some space, we bought a brand new townhouse in the South Surrey / Cloverdale area. It's a great area that has everything we need, and is 10 minutes from the center of Langley. As far as cost vs distance vs house is concerned, we made the right choice. And I won the battle and got a 2 car garage!
Like anywhere, Vancouver has it's good and bad - all of which have been outlined in this thread. The enviro-****'s that were mentionned above are so narrow minded that they can't see the entire picture. Example: While we were there - there was a TV story about a proposal to widen a couple bridges. Of course, that would mean cutting down trees so the tree huggers were vocally opposed to it. So the host said to one of them "Fine trees will have to be cut down, but in return the amount of air pollution will lessen, as each car will now have to spend less time running each day. Don't you think that is a fair trade off?" All he got was a blank stare folled by a "But we can't juct cut down trees!" Whatever...
As far as driving in Vancouver - Traffic is bad, but only REALLY bad when there is an accident on a bridge. Generally though it is pretty congested. Maybe it's the lack of highways - there is only one real highway. All of the others are just major streets like Younge, Marivale, or Sherbrooke that are given the term "Highway". The Kingsway and Lougheed Highway are roads - not Highways! And on that one true highway, the pace is frustrating. If you are doing 110kph you are a MADMAN! 90-100 seems to be an average highway speed! That would never fly out here. lol I figured the carpool lane would be faster, but 1971 VW busses can only get up to 70 so you are stuck behind them! (Sorry Sophia, I'll try keep the VW bashing to a minimum. ) We rented a brand new Mustang GT, (lotsa rednecks gonna die in these) so maybe I was overly sensative to the speed issue. Am I the only one who noticed this?
The bottom line though is that it truely is a great place. The weather is great, the roads are smooth and it is a laid back atmosphere. Looking forward to the West Coast experience... even if eViL Rotor comes out as well.
