leaking coolant

hey guys.

my car has been leaking alot of coolant. i just wanted to know if its my radiator. or my hose. When the car is off and cool it does not leak anything even when the coolant is full, but when i start the car and after it gets warm, it starts to leak alot of coolant. i would appreciate if someone can help me out.

thx

Just a couple of things to check:

1. Remove the fan and the cowl. Check for coolant at the bottom area of the radiator. The visible section at the top of the rad might look OK - but it could be rotten near the bottom.

3. Pull the hose running from the rad to the coolant overflow. Make sure there is nothing obstructing it the flow of coolant back and forth.

3. Dump the coolant and pull the upper & lower hoses off. You might need to clean up the inlet pipes with some emery cloth. Sometimes a bit of rust will get in there and allow the hoses to leak.

4. Replace the rad cap.

5. A common area of leaks are the "O" rings in the intake manifold.

6. If your engine is blowing white smoke out the exhaust, then none of the above is worth checking.
