ON Importing / MTO

I had an FD imported.

So about a month and a half ago; before the car arrived; I went to the MTO to see if there was anything special I had to do to get all the paper work prepared to register the vehicle. They said there wasn't.

So last week I went to get the vehicle registered. That's when they tell me I need the Export Certificate translated. So I scramble to get this done asap.

Yesterday I receive the certified translated document in the mail and head straight to the MTO. That's when they tell me I need either:

1) Two dealerships vouching for the VIN number on paper with a letter head. Basically it can't just be scribbled down on a piece of paper.

OR

2) One dealership vouching for the VIN number plus having the car safetied.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been through this process and if I actually need a dealership vouching for the VIN number and if there is anything else the MTO could surprise me with?

It's been such a smooth easy process up till now. All I want to do is drive the car before I have to put it away for the winter.

try a different office, especially in in a smaller town. Everything changes depending on the day, who you talk to, and where you go. They all have the same rules to follow, but some handle it completely different than others.

Great Idea!
I checked off the 2 year option for plate renewal and the girl at my local license office almost gave it to me.
That was until her Manager told her it shouldn't be an
option as next year is an E-Test year for my Rx.
Dam Crap ****. If I had more time I should have checked out another office.

it was a giant pain in the *** to get my GTR registered. I had to take a bus across toronto to the airport from scarborough, to get the customs paperwork stamped, because someone forgot the 2nd stamp that says it's RIV exempt, even though it obviously is because it's over 15.

Then I had to get another bus BACK to down town, by this point the MTO was closed, so I had to spend the night, then in the morning go and deal with some shithole car dealership (lucky star automotive I think? I forget but the guy was crooked) and get him to transfer it because a dealership had to.

Overall, I wanted to shoot myself in the face. Then the car blew up.

moral of the story, I don't know, aside from don't buy cars from tiger japanese auto parts. All of this was on a car they promised me I could get a permit for and drive home.

You're lucky you're that close. I'm 3hrs away

Basically I have everything except the vouch from a dealership. I'm heading up tomorrow and I'm going to play dumb at the MTO. If that doesn't work, then there are a ton of dealerships around the area. If that doesn't work, well I'll have to have it towed back to my home town.

So if anyone sees a red rhd fd being towed or on a flat bed, IT"S NOT BLOWN

I've heard about Tiger (actually started a thread about them) and not one single person had anything good to say about them.

Any GOOD car importing company can have all that **** taken care of for you. A little more out of pocket but much less headache and confusion.
