Importing car from US to Canada, any companies to do it?
Hello,
I figured that some RX-7 owners might have had imported their 7s from the States, perhaps some owners might know a bit on what I am trying to find out.
I am looking to see if there are any local businesses in Toronto which can help me import a car from the US to Canada. I've done some research before and know that there are some paperwork etc to arrange at the border, as well as getting the car transported across the border etc.
Now i want to know if there are companies which I can pay a fee (and if so, approximately how much?) to take care of this process for me. And if anyone has tried, would you say its worthwhile?
I'd appreciate all the info I can get, thanks!

Call Millenium Imports, located in Bradford, Ontario. 905-778-8392 ask for Paul, tell him Mike gave you his number. He imports cars on a weekly basis, I worked for him for awhile.
I could tell you what you gotta do though..well first you gotta buy your car. Bring it to New York...Queenston/Lewiston (Closer to you) or Niagara Falls. Anyway the car has to sit there for 3 days to clear the title, you'll have to go to the US customs with the title...or fax it to them. They'll check it out, the car sits in the states for the 3 day duration...then the title should clear. You then go deal with the crap at US customs at the border..take it across and go to the Canadian Customs. Tell them what your doing, fill out the proper forms, pay the duties and taxes and then your in Canada with your new car. Now, if the car is 91 or over...you need an RIV this is an inspection to see if its worthy for Canadian roads...to pass an RIV you need daytime running lights...thats easy to do and I think thats about it. Take it to Canadian Tire for the RIV and E-test, we do both . And then go through registering your car.

i can't say enough good things about TFX, myself and all my peers use them. Call jaqui and tell her Omar (with the honda bike from colorado) told you to call.
if they already have a truck not far away from your pickup zone, they discount the price to pack the truck up.
A+ service in my books.

It's actually not that difficult to do yourself, you just have to make sure you have your paperwork done and faxed ahead to the proper border crossing 72hrs in advance, and of course look after any transit registration/insurance if you're driving the car back. If the car is less than 15 years old, it is subject to RIV/Transport Canada Requirements (meaning it must meet Canadian safety regulations for it's year of manufacture, or be readily modified to do so - eg., daytime running lights, or stronger front bumpers). Older than 15 years and it just has to be eligble for export from the US (no outstanding liens, etc). A couple of threads that discuss US cars imported into Canada, both here and other forums:
http://www.riv.ca/english/html/how_to_import.html - this is your importing Bible. The rules are all there. Fail to follow them, and you will endure firey torment Or is that Pontiac Torrent? Same damn thing.

Its relatively easy to do, I have driven back a car, trailered and shipped.
It depends on you, how much you want to spend or if you are willing to do some ground work yourself.
Call me if you need some advice on the subject or contacts:

Okay I told you to go to Millenium Imports in Bradford...DO NOT call that guy. I worked for him and he just got caught by the government for illegally safetying 24 cars...he got fined 40 grand. I can't believe i worked for him...I had no idea that was going on.
This is in the sun if you want the link.
