how to start it (please help)

So this car was given to me after 10 years of sitting around. (82 fb) The problem I'm having is keeping the car started for more then 20 seconds. I do believe that the engine floods but I can't figure out why. I really need some help if anybody is willing to come by. I have tons of tools and I’m will to pay. The car is in Simoce and I will be working on it Monday (22nd) and Tuesday (23rd) all day long. I don't think much is need to eliminate this problem.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated since this is my first seven.

Off hand I'd say you need to thoroughly clean the carb (I'm thinking it has a carb rather than EFI). If it's flooding it can be from the float in the carb bowl being too high or dirt in the shut off valve, etc. It could be a lot of things in the fuel system. I would clean everything from the tank forward if the car has sat for 10 years.

I did get a new gas tank but how hard is it to clean the carb... is that something i can do myself. I have some experience working with cars but I never did anything carb related.

you need a new carb, the seals have dried out, and look like old man hands. get a rebuild kit for 30-50 bucks, and any old hotrodder will easily fix it pretty cheap. or you can do it yourself

Yea, rebuild the carb yourself. It's not hard, just take it apart slowly, lay the pieces out in order and put it all back in reverse order. Do you have a manual of any kind? It should show a breakdown picture of the carb and all it's pieces.

If it' sat for a long time, full choke and WOT worked for me.

YEah that basically worked for me too. btw tho, how do you set the float in these cars? I know how to change the airfuel mixture, and the idle. Does the AF mixture screw do basically this?

Maybe possible the seals are sticking on the rotors? Just a thought.

I personally would work my way from the carb down.

Hmmm.... looks like there is enough compression to get it going, which is 9/10's of the battle. sounds like it is the carb, and that the floats are locked in a spot, or the seals are dry, and are leaking gas in.
