12mins is correct....

all jokes aside.. who told you it was the "input bearing" on the gear box...?

I do not know much about transmissions, but in FD's the 5th gear synco likes to **** the bed almost always before anything else...

with these trannies, and how cheap and readily avaliable they are. Might I suggest finding a replacement, and parking it one weekend, and swapping them out... with basic tools it should take no longer then 4 hours... even for a first timer...

im sorry for bringing this slightly off topic, but like prodidgy2nd mentioned, how did you determine it was the "input bearing"? i.e. do you feel like the transmission is acting in a particular way?

would be helpful for other members to know

It will Go on you ..Just Before you Say: "ah Crap! my Tranny just gave up!"
Idea.If it is Broke,.Fix it!
Better that it is Done and over with now, than to Wait and Pay more to Fix things later.

If the clutch is out, and the trans is in neutral, the cluster inside the trans is spinning with the engine. If you hear noise (chunky grinding...) then some bearings are pooched.

HOWEVER. It could be low on oil. And they're fairly easy to swap. I wouldn't say a first timer could do it in a morning in a driveway....but it should be easily tackled over a weekend for sure.
