J-Spec imports is a pretty good company. Albeit you have to provide your own Out of provice. They get you the car, they just dont take care of the hard stuff.

You can get FD's starting in December (frist builds were 1991). They go for about $12,000 Landed for Absolute mint condition.

I don't think it would be a good idea just yet.

The RIV stuff is still fine, "it's over 15 years -- come on in", but the Alberta and BC are tightening the noose on the OOP inspectors to cut down on JDM imports.

If you bring one over, be prepared to replace most of the glass, and most of the signals and lights, in order to pass your OOP.

At this point, you're better off going to the states.

hmm..... would it be all that much more hassel to import a USDM FD? I would much prefer to have LHD

I know nobody knows for sure, but im wondering if import companies are going to charge an arm and a leg for a nice FD like they do in calgary for a CND one?

$10,000 landed for a grade 4 - ish or $25,000 CDN plus conversion parts from US.

Thats a no brainer, RHD or not.

They can tighten the noose on OOP, but the law is the law. If the car is safe to drive, it can be driven. The most difficult one is the skyline, but the other ones, they just compare to CDM versions of safety ratings.

also the dates availible for importation will vary by the date the car was manufactured. so as of yesterday (june first 1st) any cars built in 05/91 or older are legal. i believe FD started production after 07/92.

Huh?

You can get California FDs in LA for $10-$11K a pop, and just have to repair sun faded interior trim bits. IIRC the bumpers are already 5mph impact on those early Cali FDs, if not you can think of it as a good excuse to upgrade to a newer bumper skin while you're swapping the inner parts

Show me one that would be 10-11K.

No way, no how. You might get a roller for 7K USD, but why bother? A good running/driving FD is going to be 10K USD minimum and that would be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

That's 11K Cad. + 13% GST/Duty + 200 RIV + $1000 for the bumper conversion + 300 for DRL's + 150 OOP (assuming it needs NOTHING).

You're at 14,000 without shipment...

AND that's assuming it teleports from California to Canada for free. Figure in 1000-1500

Total of 15500.

I imported mine and it came to a hair under 17K.

I imported a FD which was mint, the importing process is pretty easy. go to RIV.CA to get the info. I also got one with 14k miles on it so I paid a pretty penny for it.

Fubawu: How do you get around the Canadian bumper law?

The RX7 requires bumper modifications to meet Canadian specs according to riv.ca

Did you somehow find a way around this?

I have a colleague who imports skylines and whatever else you want from japan. His company is called Skye Service and you can reach him at 519-241-5275, www.skyeservice.com. Alesh can answer any questions you may have about importing vehicles into Canada. His company brings in some of the most pristine examples any where.

Do you have to install the parts before importing the car into Canada, or can they be installed afterwards and then inspected?

What parts have to be swapped exactly, is it the bumper covers or crash bars or what?

Also just to clarify, I am only interested in importing from the US, not from Japan.

can't get around the canadian bumper.

I think you USED to be able to pull a fast one, and get a body shop to make a bill and say it was installed, but now you require a letter from a local Mazda dealer. You MAY be able to get them to just verify that it's been installed, but I seriously doubt your local mazda dealer will do that without first selling you the part, and likely installing it themselves.

Also, daytime running lights -- but that doesn't have to be from Mazda, you can wire that up yourself.

The guy at canadian tire (only place to get your vehicle to pass the RIV inspection) said "i just need to see some lights come on that can't be shut off, on the front of the car".

Car seat bolts don't need to be installed, as you have no rear seat.

Parts are installed once you're here,

When you're at the border, you fill our your Form 1.

Then, a few days later, i think only if the car is under 15 years old, and admissable, you'll get your Form 2 mailed to you -- the Form 2, tells you what needs to be modified to pass inspection.

I think it's the Form 2, you need to have passed at Canadian tire, before you can get the car registered (also, your out of province safety inspection).

The only thing, that you'll need from the states, and this may not be a strict requirment, is a letter from an authorzied US mazda dealer, on their letterhead, showing that the vehicle has had all recalls done.

I may be moving back to Canada and am looking at bringing my 94 FD back with me. Can anyone tell me the specific part number for the bumper parts so I can check prices on Mazda Comp? Also can you just plug in a DRL module like you can on my 94 Miata?

I think the DRL is pretty straight forward like the 94 miata (If I know what your thinking of).

If the reason for importing is for Low KMs and Basic Mods for a Cheaper Price, then I say go ahead and import! Those are the reasons i imported my Savanna ^_^. OOP will get you, but honestly if you have to money to Buy and Maintain an RX-7, then you should have to money to Pass an OOP.

I been thinking of getting a JDM RX-7 instead of the original skyline plan. They are much easier to pass OOP.
