AB Help!

Hey guys,
I am located in Calgary and i need some help
i bought an Infini FC from some dude but the rear rotor blew on me after a week of driving, and i have no idea what to do......
I talked to the guys at RX-7 specialty's and they told me it would be around 2000 to fix it
but the big thing is that i have to take the engine out myself and i have no idea!
If anyone would be kind enough to guide me or give me a hand that would be great guys

thank you
Oscar

Hey Oscar, welcome to the club.

I'm not sure how handy you are with a set of tools, but here's a starting reference for you.

http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...e_removal.html

Anything that isn't understood can be first searched for in the 1) 2nd Generation FAQ or 2) 2nd generation section, and if not found then I'm sure there are plenty of guys willing to help out.

just remember if you do it yourself you can do it again... if you pay someone the first time ur gonna have the same issue should a second time arise.

im as mechanically retarded as they come.. check out my posts.. but ive put together fcs for myself and my uncle just thru reading the forums and FSM/hanes manuals. its a valuable experience as well, as its impossible to not accidentally learn things along the way.

Hey Oscar, "No guts, no glory" is what someone said to me a couple of decades ago and that's how I got started. Once you've worked up the confidence to pull the engine and once you've stripped it down, it won't look as intimidating. I'll bet at that point, you may even feel comfortable enough to crack it open. Jump in a do it. Get to know your fellow rotorheads; nothing will give you more confidence.

If you do the work yourself, you can easily keep your budget low and put the rest of the money toward fixing what may have caused the failure in the first place. If it's just the age of the motor, I guess your number was up. If it detonated because of modifications, you'll need to learn to methodically go over each one to determine how safe a setup it is.

$2000 is a steal, with a blown rotor you're probably looking at a housing. A rebuild kit is worth up to $1200 with new apex seals and a housing is $600+......so his quote is a deal.

Here are 2 quick tips - First and foremost, before emabrking on this, go to a grocery story and buy a box of ziploc freezer bags and a sharpee. Everthing that comes off the car goes into a clearly labeled bag with what the part is and where it goes. For example you'll have a bag that says "Alternator - front of engine top" that includes the mounting bolt, a nut, a metal spacer, the black adjusting arm, the two bolts that hold it on and the adguster bolt. This will save you hours of time and headache when it comes to reassembling everything.

The second is this: Une an engine hoist. If you don't have access to one, then rent one. They are cheap to get and will be a huge help. This is doubly so for putting the engine back in!

Good luck!

i guarantee that you wont make it out of there for less than 5. just how RX7 Spec. works.

my advice, do as the others are saying and get it out and do it yourself. learning how to do it would be a valuable skill.

Not bad, clutch kit is worth $300+, resurfacing flywheel $75+, housings $1300, rebuild kit $1200, injectors $200, and seals, etc etc...you did alright.

RX-7 Specialties did it.

i will be picking it up this afternoon.
they chraged me 500 for the two housings, 515 for the 720 injector customized clips and resistors for it, and 425 for the stage 2 clutch, basic rebuilt was 2200 or so they told me to get all brand new gaskets and stuff which was 200 and to put all the exterior accessories back on so i just have to put it in and drive was 360 and the port which was around 300.

So i hope it was money well spent, i will be putting the engine in hopefull this weekend and roll around the city.

AB UPDATE !!! More problems !!!

So i just got an engine rebuild, put it in the car and now im having really weird problems. the car is an 90 FC

The car is having some sort of electrical issue while the car is on it seems like the alternator is not charging the battery and eventually the car dies and does not turn on.
So wat i did, i took the alternator out and got it tested its fine, bought a new battery and still does the same thing.

The other problem is that the car starts to bogg after 5000 rpms its weird, apparently its making the normal boost lbs but you can't feel anything.

Any suggestions???

or help in the calgary area??

Oscar

Check your grounds - you'd be amazed at what that can do. I'd even add some new ones just to be sure. Have you rewired the alternator or are you simply reusing the same wiring harness and alternator that were on the car before?

Did you ever get to the bottom of these issues?

You mentioned in a previous post you purchased 720cc injectors? How are they being controlled? Adding that much more fuel without anyway to control it would surely cause a "bogging" issue. I'd like to give RX-7 Specialties the benefit of the doubt here, I can't imagine they would throw 30% larger injectors in without some sort of control? At least I'd hope not.

Now that I think of it why did you even need larger injectors? Are you running higher than stock boost? To be honest I would throw the stock injectors back in, I don't know what injectors they used but they may have had to throw resistors in, which can cause issues if not done properly, hell it can cause issues sometimes when it's done right. That should solve the "bogging" issue. It may solve the electrical one as well. But just in case I would redo all the grounds with nice new cables. I don't know much about the S5 cars but my S4 had a few small grounds by the back firewall that attached to the bellhousing near the slave cylinder.

Let us know.
