Cool Greddy T-78 rebuild cost???

Hey guys I was talking to the guy who owns Tyee imports in Campbell river regarding purchasing a new Greddy t-78 for my 93 FD as my old one has massive shaft play and was rubbing on the housing. He said he could get me a new for $2325 which I sent to him which seemed like a reasonable price, but now says they are hard to come by as they are discontinued. He says he knows a shop he works with that can rebuild it for me for $1200. Is it just me or does that seem kinda steep for a rebuild? Ive checked around and rebuilding a turbo seems to run in the 200-800 price range? Anyone know of any rebuild shops or has any suggestions?

I phoned the guy at cherry seems like a really nice and knowledgeable guy. Wonder if theres anything closer to vancouver as ontario is like 40 hours away from me, havnt checked on shipping cost all the way there for the turbo itself.

Why not just buy a new turbo? The T78 is pretty old and you can new journal bearing turbos for about a grand? Unless you don't want to retune your car for the new turbo.

Think I would rather rebuild it as the car is already tuned for the Turbo, dont feel like paying for alterations to down pipes charge pipes plus retuning and other mods etc when i can just bolt the 78 back in. Hopefully it is rebuildable will call forcefed tomorrow as I want to bring the car in anyway. They are only 2ish hours from me.
