I need to get my FD painted!! I got an estimate at Carstar in London, who does awesome work and gaurantees a factory finish...but they said 4 grand...I don't want to spend that much....but I do want it top-notch.

 

I should have been more specific...i posted that in a hurry...i did mention that I'm in London ON, but I should have said that anywhere in my area plus including Kitchener, Hamilton, GTA is close enough......thanks.

Unfortunatly, when it comes to cars, and especially when it comes to paint, these two statements don't belong in the same sentence. There is a reason a top quality paint job costs so much. There is a ton of work involved in preparing the car for paint. A good shop such as Carstars charges accordingly for that. But in the end it will be well worth it. The other side of the spectrum is you pay Maaco $1K and end up with zero to little prep work and paint that starts cracking and peeling in less than a year. The easiest way to get a cheaper, but still top notch paint job is to prep the car yourself. Sand it down, fill the dents and remove all the trim and other bits. Tape off what you can and deliver it to Joe at Classic Auto. This will save him a ton of work, and he will only have to do a relatively small amount of work before pushing it into the paint booth. In the end it will come out looking like a $4K paint job, but you will have spent closer to half that much. For lazy bastards like me, I'll just save the money and make Joe do all the work. I hate tedious **** like that. To see a fine example of Joe's work, look up pics Marco's (Thewird) FD. Until some asshat backed into it, it was one of the most beautiful FD's out there.

On another note, with all this advertising, am I any closer to a free paint job Joe???

 

Just to add. Carstar here quoted me $1600. block prime, base and clear. Jambs are included since I'm changing color.

BUT! I did all the prep work. panels, trims, etc... off. and yes including the trim molding on the doors. They can quickly take off a few bolts and everything can be taken off. All I have to do is bring the car to them. and pick it up after. A lot of work.....

If budget wasn't an issue, car would of gone to Classic....

While I have not personally got my car painted by Joe I have seen two cars he has done and they both look amazing. When the time comes I will not even shop around as I will go straight to Joe's shop.

remember u get what u pay 4 its better u spend the money the first time and not 3 times over to get it done right my 2 cents
the last 3rd gen i payed last summer we did it in lambo sliver with all panels removed and painted off the car 4 3500 now a year later not even one paint chip on the front end and he does alot of driver his car has over 500,000km lol and on his 4 motor lol

Totally right dude. To be honest, I was super tired and lazy how I posted the whole thing lol. I would have said the same thing if someone asked me the question. I guess what I really meant is that I am decided I want top-notch, of course that can't come cheap, but maybe there's a situation out there that's awesome and may be just a TOUCH less money than Carstar for example. Like even ten bucks lol JK. That's really all I was thinking.

they did my old 240 in toronto and they quoted me 12 to 1300 for a job on my fd. this guy is old school. he is so sick at painting cars and cheap. its called ART auto body in scarb call them 416 699 6626 i got best paint one year at importfest. hes awesome so many people have been happy with his work ask for Gino. im taking my car next week to get painted white from red. here is a pic. cost me 1800 but it had all rusted out rocker panels, quarter panels had mad rust. he does not use bondo all metal. car was so nice i gave him an extra 100 dls. was amazing, he even rolled my fenders for free.
