Unless you plan on bringing a few back for crash testing etc. Or just have track plans/show car intentions for the car.

There is allot of paperwork and different people involved in getting an FD from Japan to Canada, this is a brief description of the tasks involved. #1 is the most important.

1. Get paperwork proving the vehicles manufacture date or first registration date (Specifically the year and month), if the month is not currently eligible for import don't buy it or secure storage until that time before buying it.

2. Clear customs in Japan.

3. Move vehicle to port.

4. Ship the vehicle.

5. Clear customs in Canada.

6. Transport to your home or a shop to perform required modifications for an inspection.

7. Have it inspected

8. Register and insure the vehicle.

9. Enjoy new FD

If you are interested in assistance with this process you can pm or email me at kevin@jdmauthority.org. I can take care of the steps involved in importing it for a nominal fee as I am a licensed dealer.

Your best bet would be to eather inspect the car in person in Japan, but have a local company in Japan help you through all of the steps and do all of the paper work for you and let them be in charge of all transporting and paper work. This way you aren't dealing with a language barrior and for around $1000 they will do all of the work for you. Or talk to someone like Kevjs who has done this several of times and have him set you up with the right people in japan to help aid you with everything needed. The nice thing is that you can be at the auctions personally and check out the cars that you are bidding on. compared to me where I had to rely on the company that I used using their best judgement on the car before bidding on it. You will also be able to tell which cars are the best bargain and probubly pick yourself up a nice FD. But be sure to check out several auction lots as there are tonnes in Japan who have auctions daily.
