Wow - what a year and what a championship.

Michael who?

In the end it's congrats to Kimi, he deserves it. Hamilton showed some rookie mistakes that cost him the title, but he'll be back next year and will be a huge force to deal with. Looking forward to the off season testing, and hopefully BMW will be able to join the fray next year!

see i knew Kimi would win, predictable as usual....haha.

seriously though that was quite an ending to the season. and i have to say that this has been one of the best seasons i can remember watching.

i am very excited for next season with some of the rule changes and new races.

I thought it would be over in the first corner with someone getting shunted. I was sitting on the edge of my seat till the last lap since Kubica and Rosberg looked ready to take each other out handing Hamilton the Championship. I am glad that Kimi won, I wish I didn't have to run out to the local meet so that I could watched how an "iceman" accepts his championship.

well...not so fast...looks like BMW and Williams are under investigation by the stewards for having fuel temps less than allowed.

If they get docked their points, then Hamilton would get promoted into championship-winning position.

WTF?

WTF?

From Autosport:

BMW, Williams unpunished; title confirmed

BMW Sauber and Williams will not be penalised despite discrepancies in their fuel sample temperatures during the Brazilian Grand Prix, the race stewards said.

Fuel samples taken from both cars of both teams during their pitstops in Sunday's race showed temperature degrees outside the permitted variation.
Article 6.5.5 of the Formula One technical regulations states: "No fuel on board the car may be more than ten degrees centigrade below ambient temperature."
FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer said all fuel samples from the four cars showed temperature of 12 to 14 degrees centigrate lower than the ambient temperature at the time.

However, after deliberations at Interlagos, the race stewards decided not to penalise the teams, confirming the race results of the Brazilian Grand Prix as official. This means Kimi Raikkonen is confirmed as the 2007 world champion.

A statement issued by the stewards at Interlagos on Sunday night said that they could not say for certain that the fuel in the cars was below the 10-degree maximum limit allowed in the regulations.

The stewards said that there was a discrepancy between the Formula One Management temperature of 37 degrees and that provided by the FIA and team-contracted meteorologists Meteo France, which was a few degrees cooler.

Furthermore, they made it clear that they did not have certain data in their possession that would have helped prove the teams were in breach of the regulations.

In particular, their statement said they lacked: "a precise reading of the temperature of 'fuel on board the car' which shows fuel at more than 10 degrees centigrade below ambient temperature"; and "a regulation stating in clear terms that for the purposes of Article [6.5.5] the definitive ambient temperature shall be indicated on the FOM timing monitors alone."

cant get away from the politics in f1 ! ..... I was so excited to see Kimi win the championship, it was a longshot but I didnt give up hope - not once over the season! Except for this last race I had figured Hamilton would have had to dnf instead of make a silly mistake and loose track posistion, that gearbox problem he had didnt help any either - but I thought forsure something would happen to hamilton similar to the Kubica incident in Japan where he got run into.

Well, as we wait for the Nov. 15 hearing that will change nothing, we get the not-so-shocking news today that it is official:

Alonso Leaves McLaren.

As per Adam Cooper, McLaren has announced the not unexpected news that Fernando Alonso has left McLaren, but there is no word yet as to who his replacement might be and where indeed the Spaniard might be going.

The long-awaited news is expected to trigger a merry-go-round in the F1 driver market with several drivers who appeared to be contracted moving on either by choice or default.

There has no been no indication as to whether any settlement was made, but there has been speculation that each side could blame the other for damaging their reputation, and it may will be that there has been a genuine mutual agreement which has not involved money changing hands.

I think he'll go back to Renault and Fisi will be SOL. Personally I'd like to see Rosberg end up in Alonso's seat, but we'll see. I had read on another site that there was a clause in the "McLaren-Alonso Split" that stated he could not drive for another factory-backed team, but I haven't seen anything to substantiate that.

And now it's official: Alonso is going back to Renault.

Since Renault (somehow - I still don't know how) escaped penalty, Alonso felt safe to sign there for '08. It was announced too that Piquet Jr. will be his team mate. I think Kovalainen deserved better, and I hope he takes Alonso's spot in McLaren.....

yeah i read that this morning.

any rumors on the favored drivers that will take Alonso's spot at McLaren? i'd be surprised if Heikki doesn't get a seat somewhere. after Hamilton, i think him and Kubica are the best of the upcoming drivers.
