Dual belt alt pulley, where do I find it?

Hey Guys,

I remember some of you guys at the Ottawa meet last year had a dual-belt pulley on your alternator with a rotor shaped front to it. Where do you get those? I've got a normal dual-belt pulley on my alt right now (which I got from Silverrotor when he was still selling the kits en-masse) but I've got a guy powdercoating some spare pulleys for me and figured it'd be nice to have one of those.

Where do you get them? and do they fit the FD alt?

Jon

Banzaitoyota makes a good pulley. I was carrying his for a while on rotorhead and switched, but the new pulleys weren't shipped as promptly so they've ben pulled from my site.

IIRC he charges about $20 US. PM him for current prices.

Although banzaitoyota's is cheaper, Higgi has the one that I really want, with the rotor shaped carved into the front

I've emailed him about that.

As it turns out the rotor-head ones are no longer available (at least for FD alts)

Looks like I'm gonna have to track down banzaitoyota unless someone here has a rotor-head one they'd be willing to sell me?

Higi's dual alternator belt pulleys don't fit FD alternators. I found out the hardway. Dished out 100 bucks. PUt it on. Doesn't fit. I just gave it away.

The pulley actually binds agasint the casing preventing the alternator from spinning. I bought a banzai FC one and bored out the centre bore and space a spacer to get the correct depth to make it work with the FD alt.

I thought Higgi also had ones for FD?
I orderd an FMIC elbow and dual pulley from him a short while ago and thought I saw FD pulleys on there...

FYI - I bought the last red pulley he has for an FC - he has one blue one left and then he has to get another order made or something...

That is what I thought too when I bought it. I even had it overnight shipped since I need to get my car going.

I get the pulley. It's very nice quality. Then I undid the nut that held the stock pulley on the FD alternator I got from Mazdaspeed Motorsports. I put Higgi's Pulley on. The centre bore is the correct diameter. I torque the nut down to secure the pulley onto the alternator. Next thing I know it doesn't spin anymore. I thought I broke my alternator. I took the pulley off again. THe shaft spun fine. I then noticed that the pulley was bottoming out against the casing of my FD alternator as the anodizing was showing wear/marks where it was bottoming against the casing.

I called Higgi, asked him, "what's the story?" "How come you are selling me FD alternator pulley for use in FCs with V belts but it doens't work?" He later told me after a long discussion that he is not sure. He designed and made the pulley using one of silverrotor's alternators as a template. Excellent I thought. I got screwed by silverrotor when I purposely paid extra and went out of my way to get a real alternator, only to be screwed by that *****. You can say I got owned bad on this one... real bad...

I pretty much just threw the pulley in the garbage and made my own pulley from a banzaitoyota pulley for 20 bucks.

So bottom line. Ladies and Gents. Higgi FD alternator pullies don't fit FD alternators. Oh and they still eat belts like crazy. Higgi got the pulley design wrong with silverrotor's alternator. It forces the V belts to be out of line and hence bind and die. Just ask IAN how many belts he goes through. I don't think Mazda ever designed the system to need 4 belt replacements a summer...

Well whatever dual-belt alt pulley *came* on the alternator that Silverrotor sold me works just fine. I haven't gone through a single belt in the entire time that I've had the alt (1 summer, 12,000km). Started the summer with 2 belts, and ended it with the same ones.

Unfortunately, Silverrotor is out of the pulleys that he was using, Higgi doesn't have the ones I wanted with a rotor head (and from what I see they don't work anyway) and I'm stuck looking for another source. I PM'd banzaitoyota and still haven't heard back. It's a PITA when all I want is a damn pulley so that I can send it to get powdercoated!

And now Cheers! is saying that the pulley he got from Banzaitoyota isn't a direct swap-in either! Gah!

Why are you calling Silverrotor a *****? I don't understand. Higgi and banzaitoyota are selling the products, and either they didn't do the R&D properly, or the alt that higgi had isn't the same as the one you've got. My FD alt from Silverrotor was one of the easiest things I've bolted into my FB so far and even with the dual belt pulley that came right on it I've had no difficulties.

Maybe I missed something, but what makes Silverrotor a *****? You buy alt from him, he supplies FD alt. You buy pulley from two other people, and they don't work. Suddenly the guy supplying the alt is a *****?

Right Cheers. I see you are trying to exploit me here. I will not attempt to explain your situation b'c you and I have never done business before, so do not attempt me. What I learned, Is that he was In fact tryng to replicate a mass copy of double pullies to suit. The fact Is that their are 2 types of front castings that the FD Alts came with. I actually learned of this after I stopped selling them. This maybe why the butting had taken place for those who tried retrofitting.

In any regard, I don't appreciate you calling me out but this Is no exception to do a repeat. Your previous ban was not due to me but If you persist with your bashing you will find yourself out of here. I'm serious about this. This club doesn't tolerate your foolish antics.

Their Is no sense keeping this thread open b'c It'll be the same old **** that happens again.

Btw, from your previous ban, I asked that you PM me so we can be clear with each other the underlying cause to your resentment here Is. With you being a university educated guy I expected more from you.

Jon, as explained before, at first when the double pullies came out I was having trouble matching up one of the two v grooves. One of the 2 grooves had to be machined, awhile the other was left untouched. Later on, I was able to source out untouched, perfectly fitted v-grooves. Everyone that had an Issue with the previous pullies were taken care of.
