Disciplined Tuning 1981 Mazda RX-7 Widebody Turbo

Ok guys, I've been holding out on you, sorry, lol. I've had this car for a couple of years now (or maybe a little under 2 years. I picked her up as a non-runner. She came with the widebody & a sigma turbo setup with a Weber 48 IDA. I didn't want to start a build thread until I got her going again, but IAN told me to start one OR ELSE, lol...so what the hell, hopefully it all comes together & runs some day, lol.

How I picked her up...

Taking her home

Can't seem to find pics of my original setup :S, I'll have to search for them. Anyway, I had gotten a new 48 IDA, swapped the guts from the original boost prepped one and had mine running. Changed a whole bunch of stuff, got her running pretty good, never got near the full potential though because the turbo was shot. The gas was just flying through the car, lol, so I figured hey, why not big turbo & EFI? :P. So I picked up a setup off of a boosted 13B to get started. Anyway, more on that later, I'll start as early as I have pics for.

Had a couple of leaks, so I figured I would get those out of the way since I had completely gutted the interior due to a HORRID smell, apparently emanating from a dead mouse that had lived in my car, lol, found the skull and everything, swear I took pics...but can't find . Anyway, I threw away most of the interior since it was just gross, just kept the dash & door panels really. Anyway, sunroof repair:

Trunk Lip Repair

Chunk of trunk seal lip missing, no wonder I had a swimming pool in the back

New metal in, trunk seal lip fixed

Picked up a pair of Sparco Torino's from a Miata & made my own adapter plates to use with the stock rails

Closer pic of the seats

Went & got my tires installed & found some tires a tad wider than my 295s...and suddenly my 50 tirewall didn't seem so bad, lol.

P.S. The wing is not present because on the trip home it flew off the car! Because it was only held on by a couple of self tappers!!

Air filter relocation kit? lol

MegaSquirt harness run & ready to go...just need some sensors.

Original Intercooler, now have a nice GReddy one to go in (Thank you IAN!) :P. This one will be going in the custom turbo setup on our H22 powered odyssey.

Aaand last pic for now...quick mock-up. Turbo mounted & manifolds. LIM has since been trashed since it was welded wrong, but the injectors would have been way too close to the turbo anyway. I'm now welding bungs into the primaries on the UIM.

Progress will be a little slow, since we are trying to get the Integra on the track & our H22 Odyssey out, but coming along slowly nevertheless.

MegaSquirt harness wrapped

Hoovercraft styles

Cleaning & Paint Stripping my Compomotives...trying to sell

Cleaned up

295's out back, 225s up front. Really upset I went with the 225s, would do 255, 265 or even 275 if I was planning on keeping them.

New gaskets...hopefully will get put to use soon

Making a 1.5" aluminum spacer because the turbo is touching the manifold. Spacer may get shaved down if it's too much.

Send me pics Styx! However, due to the shop, I'm pretty low on the cash end, lol. I'll be putting those manifolds I got from you to use soon though :P & that elbow! Intercooler piping soon. Should be bracketing & mounting up the intercooler & rad this week.

That intercooler looks very familiar, I may know its origin...does it have questionable TIG welding?

You do know it's origin Aaron :P. lol. I'm the guy who came by the shop a few times to pick up all the stuff from...Chris? It's his setup he had in his Widebody. And yes, it did have questionable TIG...the welds are so big...and I don't know why. I'm grinding it down & re-welding it for another car...so it looks half decent. How's your project coming along? Was pretty cool seeing it in real life. And how's Chris' FC coming along? Triple Rotor in yet?

Ah...well the reason the intercooler looks like it does is because, how do I put this....I didn't weld it. No prep was done, there was a sealant that boiled out into the weld, and the tungsten was contaminated for most of the job. Truthfully though because of the amount of contamination in the metal from years of use and a previous repair, it was a difficult job to do cleanly.

Chris' goals changed for his car and he decided to build a daily driver, so it's a street port 13B with a BNR stage 3. Should be on the road for the spring.

Is that his MegasSquirt? If so, don't worry because I wired it. The MegaSquirt, not the harness (or at least not most of it).

lol yes it is. And thank you, lol. I guess the rest is up to me haha. Still figuring out the harness, though I do have most of it figured out. I'm using the intercooler to practice my own aluminum TIGing, so we'll see how I manage, lol.

Finally got some time with the car again. Sorry for the dirty engine bay, just trying to get everything working, then once she runs, I'll be ripping out the motor to change the input shaft bearing and to clean up & paint the engine bay. So here I have mounted up my rad & oil cooler. Next comes the intercooler

I had given my s5 TII injectors to our fuel sponsor for our race car a few months ago and they were misplaced. So I am being "re-imbursed" with a set of BRAND NEW ID850's!! . Just waiting on my injectors & bungs.
