The documentary was called Street Racing and it was on last night at 9pm on A&E (channel 31). The documentary was based in toronto.

I thought it was actually quite interesting to see that street racing happens up here in toronto, i alwase thought the states was the only place where street racing is. Then again, everybody wants to be 2 Fast 2 Furious.

The thing that shocked me was the amount of FC's was taking part in the street racing. i counted about 6 different ones, it was actully sad to see soo many FC's take apart in this foolishness.

some of things i noticed in the shows is that one of the garages the one of the FC owners used was a mazda specialist shop. i also noticed JRP said a few words about street racing.

the thing i dont get about street racing and even troubled me some more about that show, is that the street racer went to a drag stip and raced there. So why cant they only race there? its much safer for people watching and the drivers, its legal, and you can give it all you got without worring about traffic or 5-0.

so did anybody see the show?

 

I know I have heard on a few occasions that the MTO was sitting out side of TMSP and handing out 1000's of dollars in tickets. I am much like you tho, I don't see why street racing is so popular, just takes one thing to go wrong; personally I think town/cities ahould buy a old stretch of road and if people want to race there, they sign a waiver signing their life away.

 

I saw it to, it was pretty good still dont understand how a 12.1 second civic can be king on the roads. Supposenly he beat everyone must of raced some pretty pethetic cars. Street racing sucks anyway.

 

Sad, take the hour to drive to the strip if you want to race.

Going to the drag strip is just WALKING into the cops hands. You might as well go to a div. headquaters and do powerslides in the parking lot.. only you'd probably get less attention from them.

There are places around that have been used since the 50's for racing.. find them and go there.

 

I know personally I have atleast 5k in possilbe fines in my car, it's a risk you have to take, living in the boonies how ever has it's ups, and with GrandBend only 1 hour away I'll pay my 15 bucks.

Actually it's not the first time we have agreed we agreed on the Autometer gauges.

I believe the shops involved in making this documentary was MRU (Now called A-Spec) and Magnus. Rumour has it that MRU and Magnus were racing for FC parts.

 

Yeah uhhhhhh A-Spec is no longer!

it couldnt be too long ago becuase i went to darknights and me and my bro got stopped by the police, but my brothers car is pretty much stock so we just walked away. darknights was in the summer.

i doubt that they were racing for parts since the was putting money on their races

 

Beats me, but I have a dragstrip 20 minutes away (Grand Bend). I intend to use it this year.

 

I've seen it a few times - it's old. The original release date of the video was September 26, 2000, so it was made in 1999, well before FATF was in theatres! lol.

 

Just a few points from a street racers point of veiw. Not that I race myself. I learned my lesson ages ago. I do not condone or support this kind of racing.

But if this was when I was a racer, heres what I'd say.

1) I hook up much better on the street than on the drag strip

2) Example - My car that has a fuel line 1 Inch too long for track specification is legal on the street and not on the strip. They are VERY picky these days on the strip. VERY.

3) Theres a more up-close and personal audience. You can mess around more, like brake-stands and so forth. Bikers can do tricks. People can just generally have fun.


Its the 'punks' that ruin it for us. I roll with the older folk. These young guys trash the place and leave a mess. The older guys do their thing and leave as quietly as they came.

 

I'm suprised that more people havn't seens this show before. Its from back in the day when Marco from Magnus, the guys from A-spec and Rob were all together working out of the same shop. Rob had this rivalry with Mike P who at the time had a really fast ride and went on to compete profesionally with a JRP sponsorship. Now when I say back in the day I'm talking before Fast and the Furious, before all those stupid genos started showing up to races and doing stupid **** in their mom's sunfires, even before the races moved north to Woodbridge. Like Nick said it was back in 2000 when the races were still running out of Milley's on Steeles in Scarborough. Its too bad that things have changed so much in the scene since then. All of the publicity from the movies and the stupid youngesters ruined it for everyone.

This documentary definitely from the early 2000 era. I think Paul from MRU was also in the documentary if I'm not mistaken. Man those were the golden ages. Now you got all these n00bs with civics.

 

i wont hide behind it i have attended a few of the woodbridge races and booooo....

there are a ton of cars easily close to a hundred on any given night, however maybe 5 will race. Everyone drives in a huge pack revven the **** out of there hondas that go no where.

there are somemore races that are still held in toronto, and i must admit you see some really nice runs. The night i was out there were 4 or 5 of the 93 style supras (sorry not familar with my supra lingo) 2 nsx's, and enough other cars that could all give them a run. Unfortunatlly the majority of these guys are so big headed its all trash talking and ppl getting into fights that the group isnt worth being around

I didn't get to see the video but it sounds like it was pretty dumb up there.. where I live they are a bit smarter than that

 

yeap, the age old arguements from street racers. Speaking of which, there's a guy claiming his z24 is faster than an s4 t2...

 

Part of the thrill of street racing is the fact it's illegal. It's like the rush a kid gets stealing his first pack of gum from 7/11 even though he had a buck in his pocket. The other thing is "you" get to choose who you race with the prize most often being pride and no price for admission. You also get up close and personal with the crowd. The downside though, too many spectators vs racers. Here there are 3 distinct groups, the kids & spectators as #1, real racers (who try to leave group #1 behind), and the big boys, that's the adults that hang out and run elsewhere.
