Confusion about drivetrain components
Hi everyone,
I got what it seem to be an 86 N/A GXL, it got the 4 pots brakes, power windows, cruise control, electronic ajustable suspension and sunroof (well and a lot of other stuff I just read in the 2nd gen option and standard feature's thread). Well, it came with an LSD diff. too. Also VIN number state that it's N/A.
When I got the car there was no engine in it but came with a 91 TII engine + harness + ECU + turbo transmission. Let's fast forward all the hassle this swap was...it's done and is now running good on Rtek 1.5 N374 ECU.
Where getting closer to the question now. I did'nt have any driveshaft and bought a turbo one and was ready to do the necessary modification to fit it. Went back home to try it and as excepted yoke did fit in perfectly but I was surprised that it fit in lenght and with the bolt pattern of the diff. too.
So the questions: Is it normal ? Was'nt there supposed to be an issue with lenght or something ? Is it possible that the rear end is turbo swapped already ? I'm I missing something here ?
Thanks for your answers !

Check the rear end. You most likely still have the N/A GXL rear end. ( yeas these were all LSD for S4 )
Your options are:
Buy hybrid driveshaft ( T2 transmission to N/A rear end )
Swap N/A transmission/flywheel /clutch and use N/A drive line ( least recommended )
Swap rear end to T2 ( you need pumpink and axels. ( All North american T2 pumkins are LSD, if shopping at import shop, be aware they offered non LSD T2 rear ends abroad ) .

If you had the N/A LSD then it would still have a smaller bolt pattern on the diff flange than a TII diff would.
That is why guys like to grab a TII driveshaft and oval the holes.
If you did not have to do that, then you must have a TII Diff.,..and you can tell if you do by counting the Ribs on the rear of the Diff case at the Filler plug..there are 11 rubs.
