Check out this Haltech ECU.
G4 RX Rotary Engine Management System for Mazda 12A and 13B engines
Very interesting.
Very interesting.
$1525 for the RX unit is a bit pricey. I'll wait until somebody on the forum tests it out and gives a review before I consider buying something like this. For now I'll stick with my ancient LT8 for my T2 swap project
Would get it before haltech. Lets the user configure the system more than the haltech.
but for 80% of the users the haltech might be a little less problematic as the rx7 community prefers them.
Bloody expensive thing...I want an ECU that's priced reasonably, does just what I want it to without the **** loads of unneeded features. And not over a 1000 bucks. Is that really so much to ask?
I guess my only option are older ecus or Megasquirt.

I want the Autotuning function..but is it really necessary? I think im asking for too much.
I have looked into Adaptronic and have been strongly considering it..but I did price it out and its still out of my price range. And that unit is still missing the features I want.

I just figured the autotune function would be helpful considering I would like to be able to tune it myself and I have 0 experience doing so. I mean I want to be able to do it myself cause this isnt the last time im going to buy a standalone or build a car lol. Maybe ill just give in and have Marco tune it haha well see.

AutoTune is awesome. It's not a substitute for knowing what one is doing, but it can take a lot of the tedium and effort out of tuning the below-boost areas of the map. Tuning the light load areas of the VE table is not particularly challenging, so let the ECU do it while you sit back and concentrate on the stuff that actually matters (such as throttle transitions, idle valves, etc.).
Indeed thats exactly why I would want the autotune function to save me some of the time lol.
Well see though as I still havent decided on which standalone I want. But I think Autotune may be the deciding factor..and my budget.

It seems like most Rotary Specific ECU's are more expensive?
Also VE tuning is nothing new. It's just becoming more available for Rotary.
There is alot of universal ecu's out there. Some with more features or less and some with old style programming and some with "nice" software. I was going to go haltech but local tuner suggested Adaptronic. Can't argue with a guy who is going to tune your car.
I had the E6K and the E8. Both drove me nuts in old school programming "E6K" and COM PORT and staging issues (E8) and the fact that there were no real engine protection features. I wanted my car to go limp on various preprogrammed engine parameters and a warning light to flash. You could do that but you needed a separate output per "engine" parameter etc.
Autotune. Never seemed to work well with the E8. Also VE tuning should make for a very quick tune which to me means autotuning might be a mute point. But I guess autotune may make for a "better" closer tune. On the E8 I just used closed loop wideband control once the car was tuned. there was no VE tuning on E8 or PS2000 for the rotary. I think the new Haltech will have VE tuning for rotary.
I never did get too use my Haltech PS2000. I ended up with an adaptronic Plug and Play because I want a plug and play ECU. My only grip with a plug and play is there is no way of using the extra inputs/outputs if you wanted to without depinning or moving wires around. The whole point of the plug and play was to remove the ECU and reinstall the factory at ease. (Note the adaptronic can use the innovative SS1-4 to log inputs.) (I am keeping all emissions and relatively stock looking other then modified turbo/fuel etc) It would be nice that the plug and play had a separate wastegate control like the old PFC did. Buying a patch harness would make it easy to swap and add stuff but a patch harness is a few hundred!!!
Anyhow not sure how I am helping this thread out..... Just thought I would ramble on...

I can vouch for link, first time I saw and tuned one was in Guyana on a buddy's FD at the track. I thought he meant adaptronics or PFC at first but kept telling me it was a "link". In terms of tuning capability and software, its really easy and I find it just like the PFC's but sorta better in some areas. Is it an Ausie, or NZL ecu? Never did research on them afterwards even though I should have
I ended up getting to play with QuickTune after the driver couldn't get it to stage the injectors properly as he bumped them up to 720 and 1680cc's and set the injector cc's in reverse, I do think that after I fully integrated the FD body harness into the FC track car, I will consider going with the Link or Haltech system in time. Its just that they are damn expensive!!
