Hey there all, I might be moving up to Ontario on work and will be bringing the 7 with me, (hopefully under her own power).

I am concerned that I would add something that would make it illegal in Canada. Here's what I'm planning tell me if you see any problems.

We have this awesome rule that if it's older than 15 years anything goes (more or less), but it still has to pass some basic inspections for DOT lights, proper safety glass, etc.

 

Thanks for the information, it does annoy me that I can't take my daily driver that's served me so well for 5 years up there with me. It's a 2001 Mits Mirage 2 door. It's not a death trap, it's been the most reliable car I've ever owned.

 

The mitsu dealer network is very small here any way, so not the best car to drive here if you need parts or repairs in a pinch.

Don't drive your FB here in the winter, we dump loads of salt on the roads.

Also with the U.S. dolar low you will find everything very expensive here.

 

Would a "domestic" be a better choice?


I understand that, and I've lived in Kingston before, and I do mind living up there and paying what I would pay. If I can get my ompany to pay a re-location for me to go up there, cool, but if not I would just load everything I could into a tailer and move up there myself.

Any other make is good, it's just that mitsu has not been in Canada long so they don't have many dealers here. It is a good idea if your are bringing in a vehclie that is 14 years old or newer for it to have been built in north america, basically any VIN # that begins with 1, 2, 3 4, or 5. All vins that begin with a letter like J (japan) will be subject to 6.1% duty at the border. Everthing older than 15 years is duty exempt.

Check what cars you CAN import before buying. I had to stop a purchase on a 2008 Subaru Forester. The US version doesn't have an imobilizer, so you can't bring it.

What value will the duty be based on for a 88 TII? KBB, NADA, or does Canada have something different?
