Boring night at the shop....lets see what fits in an RX-7!!

So I got this new RHD shell and was wanting to build it into a racecar....I figured I'd build a motor for it over the winter and cage it, then have some fun at Mosport or lapping days with it.

I've had this RB20 motor in the corner for a while so I decided to see if it'd fit.

So what do you think?

Should I do it

Well it was just a thought

It does seem to fit pretty good, it'll need a custom oil pan and pick up tube. There is lots of room on the passenger side for a much larger turbo
Even the Skyline transmission almost fits the in the stock RX-7 location, only 1/2 an inch out!

That motor thats in the car was a blown one from a customers R32 and I dont really want to rebuild it so I dont think I'll go through with the project.

Well, if it were a certain other RB series, the 26, i might say go for it, but it's not as exciting with the 20. my opinion.
but hey, it would be an interesting experiment.

Well I really like the RB20...although I have yet to drive any other Skyline, the RB20 revs to the sky and pulled very nice and was smooth.
I would shift off 8500 and it seemed to like it

I *may* use this blown motor as a mock up for the mounts and stuff, then just go pick up a j-spec motor and wire it up.
Eric - I'll do it if you feature it in the mag

yup, i'm definetly not denying any of the RB series is a nice piece of engine.
actually, i'm a big fan of most inline six engines. very nice config for a cylinder humper (piston engine).

Joe, you dont happen to have one of those 572 Chevy's in the corner do you? You know, the 720HP out of the box ones? I bet you could make that fit too!

Nice man

I have an RB25DET and an S4 Turbo II.. that I was thinking of doing the same thing as well...

u just saved me alot of hassle for test fitting as well... HEHE

I'll be using the Greddy Intake instead of the gay lookin stock one..

the RB25 Tranny is much beefier... and my car is LHD... i hope i don't have to hack the chassis...

Haha, I'll make anything fit.
I love weird motor swaps into other vehicles, theres actually a 99 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS in the local scrap yard I've been trying to get ahold of, I'd love to put a rotary in there and make the car reliable LOL.
