Best 91 Octane/premium fuel?

If you can't run 94 from Sunoco, what is the best choice for 91?
Or what should be avoided?

Canadian Tire has the credit card discount but i don't know if i can trust their fuel.
Shell is generally regarded as good fuel.

I don't think Sunoco is the 'best' gas. Us turbo guys only run it for the extra octane. I think non Ethanol-blended fuels are actually better.
With my FB, I've always gone to the cheapest place. It ran the same, no matter what.

I've read that Esso has the highest sulphur content.
I go to Shell, because that's what Kimi and Felipe use!

yeah i'm asking what people get for a turbo car if they can't run 94 from Sunoco. will every 91 rated fuel have the same amount of resistance to pre-ignition?

and of course Shell FTW because that is what M. Schumacher uses in his cars

But with Canadian Tire i can get 10 cents a litre off their fuel.

In theory, the octane rating of a fuel determines it's anti-knock rating, so every 91 octane fuel should have the same.

I never liked having to rely on 94 octane to get around, so I made two maps, one for 94 and one for 91. The other way to get around on 91 is to just run lower boost.

Ian ran 87 octane 80% of the time on our road trip lol

I'd fill it up with 89 once or twice when just highway cruising on the trip.

I run Crappy Tire fuel always have, never had any issues with it, it's an Esso fuel I guess I just like polluting more, but I don't have to e-test, and I premix, so sulphur is the last thing I am worried about.

Oh an plus the Crapp T money is a plus, specially with the 10x's coupons!

Why?

I could be completely wrong, but doesn't the addition of ethanol increase knock resistance and lower EGT slightly? Of course it has less energy per unit than gasoline and in quantities of 10% or less I don't think it's really that noticeable... maybe for high boost guys, I don't know.

personal reasons really. The reason its no more than 10% is because that is all manufacture's warrent on their cars before it starts eating fuel systems. Ofcoarse this isnt a problem on new cars or designated Flexfuel cars.

I'd rather not worry about it, and pay the extra penny to get 100% 94 oct.

is a bit of a pain trying to hunt down chevrons all the time though. In the states, they only have 92 at chevron

I'm only running 10 psi at the moment. with a boost controller ill set it to 13-14.

so what would you guys do for a car 'tuned' for American 93 Octane? would it be a big deal running 91 Octane most of the time? i suppose there are details to consider...

i'm thinking 94 is extra safety on hot ambient temperature days, and/or when running the car hard.

boost controller is always an option i suppose to run lower boost.

Although most tuners tune pretty conservative, I personally wouldn't run my 93/94 map on 91 'most of the time'. It's just not smart rotaxing.

Run lower boost, or make a second map with less ignition advance.

I blew 2 13B's on Shell gas.

But **** me do european cars turn into a rocket ship on Shell V-Power. It makes a noticable difference in my Land Rover. And Trust me, every ounce of speed and power matters in a truck like that.

For N/A Rotary, Nothing but Esso.

The ethanol is in theory a good thing(if price was no object). But, you will get slightly worse mileage on the 94 from sunoco because of it. It also affects the fuel tune on modded cars.

Don't you have a non turbo car aaron? Unless something has changed

I run Canadian Tire 91 in my 2nd gen. Ran Canadian Tire 87 when it was NA.

Buy it with an Options MasterCard and get major Canadian Tire money "on the card".

Nik, i will most likely be picking up my new daily/winter car in the next few weeks. it is turbocharged so hence the questions.
unfortunately it is not a rotary...

Does the CT Options Mastercard give you the fuel discount also? i really just want the 10 cents off per litre like you get with the Advantage card.

I don't think there's a discount on fuel, but you do often get 10x the Canadian Tire money you would have compared to just paying. In about 1 year I had $40 CT money on the card...

you cant lower the boost with a boost controller , only bring it up.

so your minimum boost will be teh wastegate plus creep if any.

Those motors are pretty sensative to higher boost and preignition almost same as the 13bs .

but that being, it doesnt seem to be moded wrongly . so I wouldnt worry.

I find Shell gas to be great 91 octane .

Azad, can you not run lower boost with a controller if the car runs higher than wastegate already?

oh, and as for the Canadian Tire gas i just figured out a good way to save some money:
- use the Options card to get CT money
- use the CT money to buy gift cards from gcr.ca (where you also get 3.33% cash back for gift card purchases)
- use the gift cards to pay for gas, and also use the multiplier coupons to get more CT money

Come on Aaron, my DD/winter car is a rotary! I'm guessing this is a subaru product? Those things are pretty damn nice. You can run the 94 from sunoco as long as the car can self adjust fuel delivery. Otherwise you are better off running 91. I've never had problems with shell 91.

i know, actually the RX-8 is tempting with the warranty they extended and the super low financing. i almost convinced myself of it!

but yeah, i'm most likely picking up a used WRX in the next little while. it's got 4 doors and a trunk and can be used in winter which i have never really had haha. and they do apparently dynamically adjust timing (maybe fuel too, not sure) if necessary. it has a re-flashed ECU to run slightly higher boost, but apparently 91 is still ok. in the US 93 Octane non-blended is readily available so that is what a lot of people use. i shall see i guess...
