Dude. I will never do this stuff again. Since I had all my stuff off a few times its not as shinny as before. I would chrome it!

I think I have aluminum polish syndrome........ What were we talking about?????

Maybe anodize the stuff. Or cermic coat?

best thing to do honestly is get it powder coated. If you take off everything that you want powder coated ITs not that expensive. I might be off , but i believe should be around $ 200- 300 for a oven full. ( what ever you can fit in it )

Or get it cromed for a bit more.

Polishing isn't hard, but it's time consuming. I polished my old alternator on my 7 and a set of rims.
The thing w/alternators is that it's better to polish it with the casing seperated.

I had probable around $300 just in sandpaper. Compound. wheels etc etc.

For me I would powder coat it or anodize it. But if you anodize it it would be better to have it polished first for a smoot finish

it is so time consuming it is not funny. Took me at least a year on on off. It was all spare parts so I just did it when I was bored.

Ian did you seal/protect your polished parts? because there is a product that is a polish sealer for aluminium specifically. Called Zoop I believe...
does anybody have any info or first hand experience on this product?

Ian

Can you give me a berif description of how you polish this stuff?
What kind of sandpaper you use, and where you got the "ZOOP", and what rags orclothes you use?

When you say "poder coat" , do you mean painting it an colour instead of the shinly polished look?

300-400grit to remove cast
600 to remove scratches
800+1000 polish.

buffing compound on cloth wheels. (Any scratches will show up right away)

its the small areas that are impossible to get to. I messed up by trying some sanding wheels only to put deep grooves in the aluminum. Its messy work.

So you are saying it was worth it? Because I am going to finish polishing my parts but don't want to keep taking them off to buff them up... I did some research and zoop came up.

Might be. Would not know. Since its been only one year. All I have so far is water spots which you still have to clean by hand.

people say its worth it. It was expensive enought. I guess it only lasts a few years before you will have to treat it again. It will stop oxidiation.
