My car will be tested under hot rod status. I do not anticipate failing the test.

I am just curious in general how RX-7's are fairing. I was lead to believe that without a load the engine the ECU will just dump fuel in and thus fail the high speed idle test.

I have the RX8 to use. We could schedule a meet/drive after I get back from Cali. End of may early June.

Just make sure you go to the Petitions link on the right and sign it!
I just got back from BC they're scraping "air care" for 2014! I couldn't be more jealous!
So, maybe we have a chance here.

I have to get mine done in the next few weeks, I'll keep you all posted. Last time I barely passed with the stock cat and really warmed up! This time it's with a hi-flo!

Take note of your PFC settings and AFRs when you get it to pass. Good Luck

The tune has very little to do with its ability to pass. I've tested this before with an emissions analyzer with the help of Daryl. Emissions equipment and a VERY hot cat are much more important.

Update: I passed yesterday. Straight Octane 94 (no pre-mix) with a bottle of STP Octane Boost.
Post numbers later, will be applying for "grey market vehicle" status!

Are you registered as historic?

Grey market vehicles still have to be emission tested...

Just looked it up... Grey market vehicles are tested by the 1980 standards which are pretty loose.

1980 & earlier:

HC (ppm): 600 CO% (by volume): 5

Makes me wonder if I can pass without my air pump since the CO is three times your limit and the CO is five times...

Just to keep my post-whoring going here...

I just got off the phone with drive clean and they confirmed that I will have to fill in some forms to be registered as a grey-market vehicle. Once this is done I only have to meet the 1980 limits I listed in my last post...

If you're RHD and want to register as a grey-market vehicle, call drive clean at 1-888-758-2999 and press 0 to speak with an agent. Explain you have a RHD car and they'll email or fax you the forms to complete.

You'll have to send back photos showing a RHD Chasis, the VIN plate and one of the back of the car including your license plate.

Registration can take up to 5 business days from the time you send back your forms. The person you speak to should provide you with a Case ID number. Once registered your VIN will automatically be associated with the less-stringent 1980's limits when a technician puts your info into the drive clean machine.

Once I'm registered I'll let you guys know how well (or poorly) a highly modified 7 does with no air pump.

Just got a call from Drive Clean. I'm now registered as a hot-rod and only have to meet the 1980 emission standards of 600 HC & 5% CO2. I'm also not required to actually have any functioning emissions equipment on the car or to have a Cat (if I'm stopped by the Smog Patrol).

I'll be going for an E-test sometime next week just for fun (even though my sticker is good until November).

I emailed in my forms & photo's yesterday and got a call today.

Just an fyi, your air pump doesn't just pump into the cat. It also pumps air in to the exhaust by the manifold. If you still have it hooked up, you'll pass the 1980 standards no problem.
