Another First Gen Back on the Road
First, Tom you must have the last set of N.O.S. A001R's left in the world. It is almost a shame to use them.
Secondly, I dug up the pictures I have of the car when it was copper and dinosaurs walked the earth. In looking up the old files, I also found some old results sheets from Sunday July 8th, 1984. The photos are from the Saturday September 17th 1983 weekend where I raced as a novice. The shots of my Capri are from in front of my folks house in Oshawa and on track at Shannonville. Be gentle, back then you almost had to build everything yourself.
The 1984 event was at Shannonville on the Nelson track. Tom was in C/I and I was a in D/I. In looking at the results, Tom pulled out a 59.652 which was very fast for back then and you have to remember this was on the A001R's one of the very first R-Compound tires.
I pulled out a 61.744 in Andy Nichol's Capri (which was a clone of mine). It was a new track record for D/I at the time and if my mind can recall from the mists of time was on BFG Radial T/A's. What really impressed me was how much different the track was then compared to today. I can't believe we actually raced wheel to wheel there.
Memories.........

ha but you did have my other favorie car. Did all Capri owners move on to rotaries? What a great era that was. Boy-o-boy could we party? Ninety percent of the competitors camped at those events and of course a complimetary Saturday dinner with enough free beer to last all night long clouds some of those memories. Thanks for digging up those pics. I am sending scouts out to see if anyone else has any. Need to find some from Picton Kartway.
And thanks everyone who posted compliments on my ride. Nice to have her back even if she does creak and rattle a bit.
Cheers!
Tom
