Ah, bushings. Such fun. At times I wish I would have bought a press when I did my front bushings. I still have some rear bushings to go, so it's not too late I suppose.

Yes the press made it alot easier. I also need to do my rear bushings but I'm still waiting on parts from Mazdatrix. Also i'm thinking of redoing my Studs and bearings but we will see.

Are you fairly happy with that press from Harbor Freight? I'm thinking about buying one, but the reviews on the 6 ton and 12 ton were both mixed.

Yes, I'm happy with the press. I only wish I was able to get the 12 ton one. Simple to put together and use. I personally didnt read the reviews before buying the press..... I just knew what tools I needed for the job...got them...did the job. Don't know how long it will last because I'm running out of uses for the small 6 ton press. I dont know if I can use it to do the wheel bearings but then again I dont think I need to replace them.

I found a coupon for the 12 ton for $100 in my last issue of Road & Track. It'll take up more space than I want to use, but seems more functional. The reviews were almost all awful, as apparently there is a whole lot of slop in the frame and it starts pushing at an angle. They say it's great if you're willing to weld the frame, which I do not have access to a welder.

Anyway, enough of me going off topic. What's up next? Are you going to try and repair some of the body damage at some point?

I've actually never used a press just because I've always had a air compressor and a air hammer I feel like its a lot easier and faster especially for bushings and rusty parts keep up the good work and keep with the pics

I can see were the slop can come from, because it’s all bolted together but for the job I had, it didn’t move. If it was anything bigger I needed to press out, then I would suggest welding it together. I have access to a welder but didn’t feel like it was dangerous enough that it needed it.

Yes I will be fixing it and repainting it, but I have yet to decide on going wide body or say stock with a roll. I keep flip-flopping between wanting a nice clean sleeper and a menacing looking race car. It will see some drift time so I guess I will have to make it stand out a little.

I have Air tools, but I lent then to a friend and didn’t have them at the time.

3/21/2012 Update

Sooooooo….. Beckey tried to kill me! After playing with my suspension I finally found a good streetable setting for the 12K/10K coilovers that I have. Zero preload and five clicks hard from the lowers soft position and the fronts and the rears should be a good starting point for anyone with 12/10’s. Then I started noticing a shaking at higher speeds, 50 to 60 mph. so naturally I checked the wheel bearings. Couldn’t find out what it was for a week. The drive shaft u-joints and slip yoke were rusted out. I do not know how I survived driving the car from DC to Fairfax without the driveshaft grenadining on me! So after a trip down to Fong’s to get a N318 flywheel we started on the 5-speed swap. Out with the old and in with the new!

I also got rid of the AC lines because I don't have a AC compressor.

Now I'm Back Daily driving my car again, YAY!!! But its been a while since I've Driven a Manual.... but its coming back. I have also missed about a week of MMA training because of this, so I do not know if I'll be doing the fight at the end of the month. It's a hobby not a career so I'm not to bummed about it but there is always another fight. I did however ended up using the GSLE N304 Flywheel although its not balanced for the engine I hope it will at-least last till next month when I officially get my raise at work and buy my new engine. Next on the list is those damned wheel studs ... Stay tuned!

I also have a wheel stud to replace, but I've decided to just replace the broken one (torqued it off myself once when removing the wheel) instead of replacing all of them.

It's good to see you now have a proper transmission in the car. Rotaries just don't seem to like automatics that much. It just feels wrong to me.

My neighbors would be all over me if I did work in the street like that. I get funny enough looks as is by doing work in the garage. Especially if I'm throwing parts out in the lawn or putting them on the driveway!

I think It will be nice to do them all while I'm in the mood. doesn't cost much... just some time.

Yes! it feels much better now that its a manual.

Yeah, they all know us and we work on everyone's cars for some side money so they don't mind as long a we clean up good. Beside I'm still saving up for a house/town house with a proper garage. So this is just temporary. I do have friends with a single car garage but for the 5-speed swap I felt it would be too cramped.

Thanks man! It took me and Taka about two days working on it after work. About 4 hours each day, the pain was sliding it off of the engine. Putting in the 5-speed was much quicker/easier.

Thanks man, I'm trying to make a really nice little car. I think I'm done with suspension after the wheel studs. Then new engine and power adders, and lastly Paint and body.
