Wow, the rust on yours is as bad as on my old vert (i call her rusty) I've allways wanted to go this route, but I said to hell with it and just bought another turbo'd vert. Now if I could just drive it

 

The rust actually wasnt really horrible. I make it seem alot more than it really is. This is actually th first vert ive seen that dont have the wheel well gone., quarters or rockers rusted out, and there is zero underneith from the rockers back. If you think you have a clean Vert get under there with a chizzle and start pounding around. it may look perfect without a doubt but the seams were the 20yr old caulk is jusst aint caulked anymore lol. there are certain spots that i know 95% all verts/coupes have rust.

I had a little on the fenders, they had collected leaves long before I got it, I changed out the fenders 2 winters ago, luckily my rockers are good but they are now covered up with the TII skirts. I bet if I really starting smacking things with a hammer I would have found some.

Only rust I have on the 1/4 is a small spot that always comes back where a tiny piece of metal was welded in, I had almost a tiny hole from where the previous owner hit something low on the wheel well and we welded in a piece of metal- every few years I touch it up

That is some resto you are doing, possibly the most extensive RX7 resto I have come across

 

 

I honestly didnt know there was this much work that had to be done. Although i dont have to go nearly to the extent i am, i believe in the long run it will help me. You may not know but i study your car all the time. very closely. I think your car is 1 of the 2 best convertibles that has ever been posted on this board that i have ever seen. I give you Big appreciation for keeping it. It seems older people always fiddle around for a while then sell there hobby. This car has been threw its ups and downs with me, 2 full part outs, almost scrapped it. I know were it stands now and i will never ever sell it for anything. Ill be homeless and sleep in it if life ever came to that lol. Hopefully when its all done i will be able to enjoy it when its running ha, wake up in the morning with a smile on my face looking forward to the car wash.

 

Well after putting the car on the rotisserie i noted the Pass. side behind the rear tire is caved in about 4-5 Inches. FC are well built, any body man will tell ya that. The steal used is F-ING hard. With a 3TON jack putting all the pressure it could on it, and the area cherry red you would think the floor would move...haha not. it ripped that square tubing and broke the bolts on the chain, tore weldes and everything else.

Had to resort to this

After a few hours of beating, pounding, going crazy, we have a perfect fit like a puzzle. Its tacked in here but has been fully welded in.

Removing the big buldge for the OEM heat sheild on the pass side under the firewall. so you can fit a nice 4inch exhaust

 

My amazing 56$ sandblasting cabinet, yes you can fit the rear end of an FC in it. **** works wonders

 

Plans for tomo. are..

1. Strip all the undercoat off the bottom.
2.Sandblast the rest of the underneith.

This should take a good 8+ hours to complete

 

Great to see guys that do **** perfectly right. Your thread really makes me want to strip my coupe completely down and do a full resto.

 

Do it up, ill let you barrow the rotissorie when mines off it. glade someone flows this thread. I put alot of work and time into it. many many many many 15hr days

Well i got about 35% of the underneith stripped lol, what a fucked up job that is. Got some more things welded up. I should be done welding everything and now all i have left to do to the underside is strip it, paint it, seal it.

Well i got the underneith ALMOST complete LMAO. Put PASS side quarter on. On the underneith I did some modifications so when i lower it/ use camber adjusters nothing hits the bottom of the car. That took me about 4 days 6-8 hrs a day to get done. All i have to do is get a 3ftx3ft section sandblasted and i will be getting that done in the AM tomo. After that i have to get all the sand out AGAIN.. then recaulk everything...then paint the underneith. On the bright side ive collected:

Electromotive Tec3r
Radiator
T2 skirts
Tripple gague pod
some gauges
A/W IC & Heat exchanger
10 gallon fuel cell modified for A/W IC
OSGIKEN Twin disk
I have everything to put my engine together just hve to port it. Don't feel like pulling the degree wheel out ect. so i was trying to grab ITO porting templates.
Alot of interior plastics and random little things i have been collecting...

 

This is pretty damn impressive.

 

I have been getting the oem seat brackets fitted to the seats. It is a big job trying to get 1988 stuff to fit 2006 stuff vise versa. Putting Rx8 seats in a 2nd gen is tricky to do it RIGHT. That means using the stock seat rails so you can use the oem seat rail bolt holes. The seat is moved around 3-4in father back than stock, 2inch lower, 1in toward the door. making these rails involved modifying the seat rails themselves so they can slide back 3more inches. A few photos snapped w/ my pos phone along the way. there not in order, i will post the final setup.

 

 

You should do a real write-up on how you modified the seat rails. Rx-8 seats look good with that rotary emblem. Props for modding those seats to fit properly.

 

that is a ton of work, this better be the baddest FC vert ever if your going that far. but good luck
