Turbo kit options for new build
Tax time is here and as I wait for the cash to come in I decided to do some window shopping for a new turbo set up and a few other things. I could use a little advice on products from anyone who's used any of the things I'm thinking of getting. To make things easier to understand I'll list the current build and goals first.
The car: '87 GXL with a frankenstein block (s4 N/A housings,s4 N/A rotors, s4 turbo irons w/ stock ports, Stock s4 TII injectors/pump, s5 fuel rails, stock cooling system). Aftermarket turbo manifold, S5 turbo core in ebay turbine/compressor housings. Wastegate set to 8psi
The goals: Street driven with very rare strip/track use. No drifting or anything like that and hp desires are modest. By modest I mean more than a stock TII but not so much that I have to do major drivetrain upgrades since TII drivetrain parts seem to escape me.
Stuff I'm looking at are: Himni Racing turbo kit (1 HR FC V2 87-92 Mazda RX-7 T04E Turbo Kit FC3S [HRV2_T04E] - $2,989.00 : Himni Racing, Turbocharger, Turbo, Garrett, Turbo Kit, GReddy, Mazda RX-7, HKS, Apexi, TiAL, TurboXS, TurboSmart, Flange, Turbonetics, Exhaust, Intercooler, ACT, Intake), Walbro 255, Fidanza 4.3 clutch kit and running all this on a Haltech Sprint RE.
I imagine I'll need to upgrade the injectors (secondaries at the least). My temps never got halfway on the gauge before or after the rebuild with a stock s5 turbo but I plan on a new radiator. Which radiator I'm not sure yet. Basing product choices on the rule of : Cheap, Fast, Reliable - Pick 2, i.e. I'd like a radiator that's cheap but reliable (since it doesn't exactly affect speed lol). I'm looking into full turbo kits that include a manifold since I don't like the turbo/wastegate placement of the cheap manifold I have now. If anyone can suggest a better kit w/manifold or one without and a good manifold It would help a lot. Turbo will be a garret T04E t4 turbo (Garrett Full T04E Turbo - T4 , P-Trim, 525 HP [GAR-T04E-057] - $656.00 : Himni Racing, Turbocharger, Turbo, Garrett, Turbo Kit, GReddy, Mazda RX-7, HKS, Apexi, TiAL, TurboXS, TurboSmart, Flange, Turbonetics, Exhaust, Intercooler, ACT, Intake).

Turbo system is also avialable with a tdx57. This is a billet Garrett T04E for those looking for sub 400rwhp with even faster boost response. Both turbo are water cooled. If price is of concern a Bw 7670 can be swapped for a few hundred less.

^^ definitely talk to this man if you're curious about turbo setups.
Elliot (Turblown) is extremely knowledgeable, professional and very fast with responses to any questions no matter how technical or downright silly they may be. If you need anything fabricated (turbo manifold/downpipe etc) he does beautiful work.
I have a crazy Borg Warner EFR setup in the mail from Elliot as we speak. He can get anything you need, advise you on what you need for whatever power/usage goals you have, this guy's customer service is second to none. I was talking with Himni Racing prior to finding Turblown, trying to get a basic GT35R kit. Getting any info or details from those guys was like pulling teeth. About 2 months of getting one email back every 2 weeks or so that would answer maybe 1 or 2 of my 5 or 6 questions and I had had enough. Turblown answered my first few emails within a day and answered every single question I asked of him.
And not just turbos either, I have an adaptronic ecu, fuel injectors, fuel pump and regulator etc. all coming from Elliot as well.
This is just some of the stuff I have on the way
Do it. Talk to Turblown. He'll set you up.
