S4 Build with lots of pictures

My 1986 Rx7 which I am in the process of painting right now. Color will be Toyota Super White. Some people might not like the choice, but I like white Rx7's and its the color I wanted. It has went smooth so far and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am 19 and currently going to college for mechanical engineering. Cars are my passion so I hope to always work closely with them. Especially the Rx7.

Me and a friend worked on this one day so far through the worst storm I have seen (tornado blew roof off a walmart just across the road-- No I'm not exagerating) and the only realy problem is the black trim with the seal right at the bottom of the window. It has rusted bad, cracked, and split from the seal. We aren't sure how to fix that.

Future plans for build: Finish up the paint, do a turbo II engine swap, Swap in the turbo II tranny and rear end I already have, then maybe some more body work.

Guess the best way to start this off is with some pictures of the passenger side we have been working on.

Before:

Progress:

You can see the high spots where the huge dent was. We got most of it worked out, but it still needs a little work at this point

Any comments are more than welcome.
I definately want to hear the bad things so I can correct them.
Thanks, for reading and I hope people can get some inspiration from my build.
Will post more pictures next weekend when I get to work on it some more.

my side trim is all rusted and cracked too, i think what i might do is brake away all the bits that are crumbling and sand and paint them. car is looking good, white will look good with your wheels you have there. just need to slam it!

We will have to think of something if nobody else has any ideas.
It does have a bit of a gap there, but lowering it anymore will have to happen later.
Thanks for the kind words!

Yeah that was kind of a last resort for the price, but I guess that would be my best option.
Thanks

Thanks for the kind words! It's gonna take a lot of work but hopefully before I finish college I will have it exactly how I want it.

You got very lucky there. I wish I would have just kept on looking for a turbo II, it's going to take a lot of work to swap it all in. But I do got some of the things I want, like manual steering. I feel much more comfortable working on engines than I do suspension/steering. As of now the car will handle a curve very well without sliding. I can easily hit 80-90 (maybe an exageration, because I don't watch the speedo) going around the little loops for an interstate/ parkway. But it will easily slide when you want it also.

Here is another picture of the worst spot before we worked it out.

Also if anyone has a passenger side s5 tail light for sale that's in good shape let me know. Mine had a small crack on the turn signal lens thats gotten worse over time.

We got a lot done today. Got the spoiler off and filled some holes, and noticed a pretty big problem under the hatch seal =(. I'll just let you see with the pictures.

But, there were good things. We got the body pretty well straightened out other than the roof. Will get some more done tomorrow and fix the driver fender.

Thanks for viewing.

Got the hole in the fender welded up. Was too tired to take any pictures last night. Still needs a little work, but that's a big thing I can put behind me. Should have new pictures the next time I work.

The rear is 17X9 with a +35 offset and a 3" lip. Tires are 225/45.
The front is 17X7 with a 1.75" lip. Has 205/40.
There is definately plenty of dings. You should post up a build thread so we can see your body work.
Thanks

I am ready to get some paint on this thing, but can't get in a hurry.

Car needed some major body work. Got the roof finished yesterday. Only need to fix the hood and the hatch before we can really start prepping for paint.

Hoping I will have some primer on it next weekend. Don't want to bore everyone with the body work pictures, so I will post it primered and then painted.

Oh yeah, that supra was in great shape! I hope I can talk him into buying it so I can drive it a bit.

When I get some new wheels I'll be sure to let you know and I got something special planned for the tail lights.

Just gotta wait and see. Hope it turns out good, but it was supposed to be more of a surprise. I want to try something that I don't think has been done because the lenses are sort of cracked anyways.

Yeah I do, I hardly ever see any Rx7s around. I have seen a few in Somerset, only 1 in Russell County and that was about a year ago.

Nice work so far. You give me hope for the build I am starting right now. As soon as I can convince the wife to let me spend the money mine will begin. I am doing a N/A Turbo swap on an 87. Good luck and if I can get mine off the ground I will start a build thread of my own.

Good luck! I wish your wife was interested in it too. Things would go a lot smoother.
Since I'm painting, it will prolly be a while before I swap the engine.

Remember this is the first time I have ever done any body work and its coming out pretty smooth. If you ever work on the body on that 87, try and find someone that will let you help. I have learned a lot and can actually say I worked on the body. He has done most of the major things, but I have learned.
At this point I just feel really bad, because he gave me a price that was way too low so I'll prolly pay him a little extra.

I'm glad I give you hope and maybe after it's painted you can come check it out again.
Thanks!

Just noticed that I didn't have any interior pictures. Sorry that all these are from the same angle.

Also I have a different shift **** now that screws on. The one in the pictures came with the car, but I also have the stock one.

I apologize for the mess!

The interior appears to be in decent shape, aside from the typical broken center vents. It looks like maybe the door panel carpet portion could use replacing as well, but that's pretty good for the age of the car.

I agree th interior is phenomenal for the age of the car. Especially considering the odometer reads 229319. I expect it had been redone at one point. The door panels are the worse and at this point it could all use a cleaning.

What really surprised me about the interior is that the car came with no floor mats but it was all in great shape. I haven't been able o bring my self to buy any yet either. Maybe someone could tell me which ones to get?
