NY My new adventure begins!!!

I am going to attempt to tear down my engine and fix it myself. I have torn down many snowmobile and lawnmower motors in my life that were very tricky. Also have my father help me aswell. He has been tearing down lawnmower/snowmobile/weed eater/car motors for over 30 years. Wish me luck. I will keep this post updated. I will start the process hopefully Monday. I have the previous owner getting me a list of parts that were replaced before i got the car from him. That should help me.

Good luck, not to be sarcastic or anything, but no amount of lawnmower engine rebuilding could prepare you for a rotary rebuild. It is completely different. We all know this is obvious, but you never know with some people.

Best advice is to pic up the Atkins master rebuild kit, a copy of the FSM in PDF format (I would give the link if I had it), a rebuild dvd from mazdatrix or atkins, and a lot of reading and researching. Also check out Aaroncake's rebuild video, I find it very helpful.

Yeah i am defently looking to pdf's on the motor rebuild and all the reading i can get done. It looks alot easier then taking apart a triple snowmobile motor. Whew that was alot of fun and holy **** was it complicated to put back together. I am going to take my time as the car will not be running on the road till next spring. Plus i have a few mechanic buddies of mine that should be able to help me if i get stumped too.

Good planning. The best thing you could do to help yourself out is make an outline of what you want to get done to it, as well as a 'budget' (very loosely thrown around term) you would like to stick to, and use the measure twice cut once mindset. These are pretty simple engines when it comes down to it, but also require very strict and patient rebuilds to run at their best.

Yep just like snowmobile engines. You cut corners and next thing you need is a new motor. I am going to tear it apart first before i order anything. That way i know what to get and what i don't need. Going to be a fun project.

Yep going to do that. I want to make sure that everything goes back together correct. Don't want to mix up parts.

Good news today a good friend and mechanic of mine is willing to help me tear down this motor and help me put it back together. He has worked on these in the past so he has knowledge on them. So i pull the motor monday and take it to his house for tear down and rebuild. Going to be fun to do this project with him. I haven't talked to him in months so i was surprised he was willing to help me. That is what friends are for.

Bad news is motor is back in car and not fixed. Cost to much to get parts for it and i ran out of money. What is the cheapest way to fix the motor? OR is there another motor i can put in without much mod's non v8 if possible? Thanks guys i just want to get it back on the road.

... Unless he is rebuilding Wolf lawn mowers and Articat Panthers powered by Sachs! But probably not.

@87rx7fan, good luck! Read lots of material and watch lots of videos. Rebuilding a rotary is relatively easy. I could probably do it. But clearancing and making sure everything is in spec is where I decide to let some one experienced handle it.
