Talking My First Dorito. . .

Hello all, my name is Jared and like many of you I have a disease…I'm addicted to cars. But first a little backstory. . .

My first car. . .

A 2000 Ford Mustang V6, at just 17 years old, I thought I was the coolest kid in school…little did I know :roll eyes:

I painted racing stripes on it, Angel Eyes headlights and a Flowmaster Catback exhaust

After some unfortunate events and what seemed like forever, I eventually placed my rear in another vehicle.

This time a 2009 Dodge Charger R/T..

I added many things to this including wheels, a stereo, new hood, custom vinyl graphics, and a Procharger supercharger kit…

After realizing that 450rwhp in a machine the size of a boat was no longer fun, or entertaining, I traded the Charger for this…
My friends built 2004 Nissan 350Z Turbo…

It was nice and I loved it…until it was stolen from me :bang head: :bang head:

But after some time I ended up purchasing a leftover from the dealership…

A 2010 Mitsubishi Evolution X SE…

I added wheels, intake, UICP, exhaust, lowering springs, COBB Access Port and other little things (including a daily driver [1991 Nissan 240SX])

Which brings me to my 240SX build (in short)…

Was stock as a rock when I bought it except for kouki tails and Megan coilovers…

Did a whole bunch of things…

Including a genuine heart transplant…

Ran it like that for a season…

Then decided I wanted to change some things, specifically the intercooler, piping, and clean up the bay a bit…

In the mien time I had this little bugger as a daily driver, my first Volkswagen

2008 Volkswagen Rabbit...

Ended up trading it in for for a MKV Jetta 2.5 that I never really took many pictures of….

During the end of fall I decided I wanted to get myself something I could have fun with all year around so I ended up trading the Nissan for a 2002 Subaru WRX…

Then after day 3 of running it, the transmission apparently had enough of deciding what it liked better, water or oil. . .

But after replacing the transmission I started modding…

Added an STi trunk, V7 STi gauges, V7 STi hood, Prodrive lip, different wheels, and coilovers…

During the modding of the Subaru I noticed 5th kept poping out and was having trouble getting into 2nd, which worried me and at the time I had just traded the MKV Jetta for a MKIV Golf 2.0…

So I sold the WRX and put that money into the Golf…

Coilovers, Skid Plate, Adapters, Wheels, Steering Wheel, ect…

I put it back to factory and bought my most current Volkswagen

A 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLI with the 24v VR6
This is how I bought it… 77,000 original miles

Put the suspension and wheels from the golf on the Jetta, I think it looks better with the color contrast…

Now lets get to what you're really here to see, car #14 for me and what I can say has been my most in depth and fun car to date.

1988 Mazda RX7 S4 10th Anniversary Edition.

It drove well, but was low on compression, so we decided it was time to rebuild it now rather than later. . .

Started the disassembly process. . .

While we were waiting on the Atkins Rotary Rebuild Kit we decided to take a tub of kerosine and clean the rotors, housings, and irons. . .

And then it arrived, along with a couple more goodies. . .

Started to reassemble the motor with RA Classic Apex Seals, and Solid Corner Seals. . .

Tried to put the motor in and realized the pilot bearing was shot, so I had to order a new one, in the mean time I built a panel for the gauges and Walker deleted the cat. . .

New bearing arrived, installed, and on goes the install. . .

Wired in the resistors for the 720CC injectors. . .

Now we're here, the car has about 50 miles on it. She spits and sputters under light throttle and will refuse to idle, runs very lean unless under load. . .

I'll be sure to keep this updated, and thanks for being patient with the read!

Wow I was not expecting such an in depth back story. But I like it.
The 10ae looks like it's in good hands.

Which was your favorite of the previous ones?

I would have to say my Evo was my favorite but I'm loving the FC.

If they had an Evo wagon I would own one.

I agree the FC has so much personality. It's a really fun car. Even though I rarely use it, I just can't get rid of it.
I'm looking toward to your progress.

For the plastics like the ashtray and stuff... a rag and some wd40 will bring it right back to life. Nice build though.

Thanks for the tip! Even though it might sound a little weird and will def have a scent to it, peanut butter seems to work the best in rehydrating vinyl and plastics

Peanut butter? That is a new one to me. Extra chunky or cream and silky? haha I already know which.

UPDATE; Received block off plates from Banzai Racing, installed them and now the car idles! Extremely erratically, but it does idle. Looked into it and along with the fuel cut at different boost levels and inconsistent rpms, things are pointing to the TPS. We performed a test and it was way out of wack. Now to get my hands on one of those... -___-

UPDATE: Finally got a new TPS thanks to TURBOX, tested it, works properly. But for some reason it still idles funky…and now it cuts fuel right at 3500rpms under load…

Here's a link to the injectors that I had purchased and am now running on my car, i'm wonder if it has to do with them, or the Rtek…any help would be appreciated.

maybe it's the 3800 rpm stutter. Check the grounds.

I like the extensive car history, you had a lot of good stuff. Also nice work on the rebuild, hope you figure out the issues

UPDATE:

Quite a progressive day today!

Started off with replacing the fuel filter, didn't do much but it didn't hurt seeing as the old one was 26 years young.

Got the idle down to about 950-1,000 rpms with little stutter but running on the lean side… went for a drive, acted great until 3500 rpms exactly…got to thinking, secondary injectors are suppose to chime in at 3500 with the Rtek 1.8.

Long story short, we followed Aaron Cake's guide on cleaning the ground wires, didn't do anything really but didn't hurt. Finally, we probed the ECU, the injector clips, and the wires, and found out that when we soldered the resistors in, one of the secondary resistors solder had been weak and broke…re-soldered it and BINGO! Rolls right on through the revs :-D

I hope this helps any one else that's having problems at 3500/3800 rpms.

Next up is to just continue driving it, breaking it in.

In the mean - time i'm going to spray pain (for now) the fenders that are pealing, and try and clean it up a bit.

Stay tuned for a photo heavy post soon ^.^

UPDATE: Finally got things under control. Turns out one of the solder joins from when we wired in the resistors for the injectors had broken...found it, fixed it, and now its running so well. Replaced the 6 psi spring in my Tial Q to an 11psi spring and now it idles. Also repainted the front right fender temporarily until i get the Shine Auto Project front and rear fenders, then the car will get a well deserved re-spray.

Also be sure to check out my YouTube channel for update videos and more

Just hit 400 miles on the rebuilt, still starting hard when engine is cold...can anyone chime in as to possibilities?

(no, it's not flooding -____-)
