20b motor with the S4's transmission? would it work? better yet, would it work well? and if not, what transmission would be best? all I can find for 20B transmissions are automatics, and those are no fun. any help/info/pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Most use a turbo iI transmission. It bolts right up. you will need to swap over the flywheel for a manual transmission car. The Cosmo was only available with an automatic is my understanding.

Coxxoc is correct. While any (I believe) 74+ rotary transmission will physically bolt up to a 20B, you will need a flywheel to match. As the factory manual transmission flywheels have the rear counterweight integrated into them, you will have to get an aftermarket one that utilizes the rear counterweight from an automatic.

On my Project OldTree, I am using an Infini IV transmission (just a J-spec S5T2 one, all of them are the same lol) with an ACT Prolite TII flywheel and ACT TII HDSS clutch rated for ~330 ft.lbs (Heavy Duty pressure late, Sports full-face disc). The original plan was to use my N/A transmission as Aaron Cake did with Project Tina, but that went awry as soon as I started looking for a proper clutch. While ACT's offerings are excellent, 300+ ft.lbs of torque through a N/A transmission meant an unacceptably harsh clutch for the financial outlay of $450 or more.

While the TII HD clutch is a bit heavy, a N/A one to hold the same torque would have been ridiculous bordering on causing injury to my ankle when used as a daily driver. It would require the use of an Xtreme pressure plate and 4/6 puck disc to barely be adequate. Add in getting a suitable flywheel and it just wouldn't work to my liking. So, back to the drawing board...

While all of this may sound depressing, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As my mom (Rest in peace) would always say, "There is a way to do it, you just need to think creatively.". So I did and here's what happened: My friend with two FDs hooked me up with a flywheel he got on ebay with an ACT Xtreme clutch for his project FD. Paid $80 for all of it, so he offered me the flywheel for the same. The clutch was another ebay find for $125. As for the transmission, it was found in here for $200 shipped via Greyhound.

When my mom saw the car start up a couple weeks ago for the first time, all she could do is smile and know that what she taught me paid off.
