is there a reason why you cut a square for your piping rather than just using a circle bit?
IMO it would have made it look a little "better"

I like the rectangles, they turned out awesome! Thanks for the input though.

That's exactly how I did mine too. Angle grinder, nasty cuts, primed & painted to prevent rust, covered up with bits of split hose. I get what he's saying though. The whole rest of the car was done so beautifully with all that precision machine work, tig welding, etc. Then you see these holes cut out like that. I guess everyone was expecting you to take the chassis to a waterjet to have them CNC cut or something

Very nice work. I wish I had access to all that stuff. I'm forced make do with a flux core welder and a drill press!

Thanks!

I know what you both mean, I like everyone's opinions on this stuff!

All that really needs to be done to clean it up is to use a better material to outline the holes. Hose was what I had available at the time. I'll be thinking about what I can do.

Got a fan in today!

SirCygnus 07-05-12 08:43 AM

that Radiator fan will not work out right. you will have overheating problems. trust.

He mentions that he's going to be switching fans anyway.
That one looks like a 16" Volvo fan, which would actually work fine if remounted on it's shroud.

Glease Man 07-05-12 09:35 AM

I have an escort fan ready to go in, It's similar to the Taurus fan.

Couldn't find a Taurus fan with decent shipping to Canada

7speed 07-06-12 01:16 AM

There were no Taurus fans at the autowreckers?

Glease Man 07-06-12 08:59 AM

Nothing local at all.. The only one in the yard here was missing the fan and rad.

Glease Man 07-08-12 02:24 PM

Well, lots has been going on and i'm back to working on my car again. Not much excitement yet, but there's lots of parts on the way. Having my own garage now helps a ton. Last years part of this build was done in the driveway and it was terrible.

Picked up another 13B from Kitchener for the internal parts. It needed oil seals so it was perfect for what I needed it for.

This was the culprit for my engine damage. The cat had clogged, and in the middle of a 2nd gear pull this blew out the tailpipe, spiking boost pressure over 20psi. Cracked a seal, leaving my house later that day it tossed a seal. Live and learn I guess.

Still running the hybrid? Was planning on making one with a stock s5 and 60-1 cold side. How do you like the response? How's the boost creep?

Glease Man 02-02-13 09:41 PM

I actually just sold my Hybrid, and bought a Garrett GT4082. My power goals were just a bit higher than the hybrid would make. As for the turbo, I loved it! It spooled fast and was reliable because it was plumbed stock. The only thing I would make sure to do is port the wastegate or run an external unit. The higher flow will make the wastegate bottleneck much more evident.

I recommend 60-1 /S5 hybrids to anyone wanting 300-350 hp.

Sweet tool box! Cool project to, thats quite the sight seeing that come out of your exhaust haha

Glease Man 02-03-13 09:01 AM

Thanks a lot man!

It came out with a huge "diesel like" cloud of black, I was quite shocked lol. I immediately turned around and picked it up. After it had a really rough start (Cracked seal), I checked my data logs of that afternoon, and realized it had spiked.

demon721 02-03-13 01:13 PM

clean build. definetly loving the color and everything bout it. sorry to hear bout the motor. but hopefully she comes back strong good luck

Glease Man 02-03-13 01:40 PM

Thanks, much appreciated. I'm having a blast building the new engine, and I only killed a rotor and housing, so I got off pretty easy. Can't wait to be back out!
