All my parts arrived today but I sadly did not have time to swap them out apart from the rubber/metal washer that the Y-bracket bolts to. It was the only easy thing to do. So apart from that, I'm picking up a second job to hopefully get more money for parts. And even though this isn't related to my car, I wanted to share with you guys my two good friends Devin Giles and Norbert Sob who both regularly track their cars, and who I will be at events with. Devin is in the red S2K (also owns and drives a garage-built time attack S14 with an SR20DET) and Norb is in the silver NB Miata with the hardtop. Both of them are part of Race Hub Chicago and extended an invitation to me once I have my car all ready for the track.

Didn't solve my vibration issues... Yes the mounts are changed along with Y-bracket. SSSSSOOOOOOOOOO wtf could it be now? Bad PP, bad pilot?

So here are my plans for my next batch purchase:
-Trans front cover with new front seal and gasket
-Trans rear main seal
-Pilot bearing with new seal and the installer
-clutch alignment tool (just to finally have one)
-clutch hardline and stainless slave hose
-Speedo gear o-ring and seal

I have yet to change the trans fluid, but I am not too concerned about it since it was still really clear with no contaminants. I might also add a new release bearing to that list. I'm trying to tackle every trans issue all at once to solve this one issue, and then not worry about it too very much after that since everything will be new. After that stuff I will worry about the shifter. The boots aren't as important as all the above items.

Yea he's had it for a while now. I don't know if he still has the G20 or not, but I do know that he does have both the s14 and s2k.

More boring work done. I picked up some #0000 steel wool and went about polishing things. Mainly the AC pipe that runs along the rear of the engine bay. What a DRASTIC difference.

My next set of parts are going to be in transit come monday (sucks that weekends don't count as business days) and im hoping this will solve all my trans problems. I ordered the pilot bearing, pilot seal, front and rear main seals, and the speedo gear o ring and seal, along with the alignment tool and pilot installer tool. I didn't want to bite the bullet just yet on the removal tool. If i can i want to try to snag a used one from someone for cheap. I plan to replace the pilot every 10-15k miles as reccomended, and since thw car will be tracked. I think its a good investment for reliability. Besides, at the price of a pilot bearing and seal, there's no real reason not to.

Then next up will be the shifter boots. Hopefully. and shift rebuild. I already ordered a new return spring, but I'm holding off on the bushings and boots for just another week or two. I figured since i only plan on having the trans down once, it would be a good time to replace the spring then instead of worrying about it again when i replace tue bushings and boots. I also found some new tires I'm looking at, the BFGoodrich Sport COMP2 which are looking quite promising so far. Probably not as good as the Star Specs, but for the price, better than the DZ101's.

Not exactly sure why the pictures are so distorted, but what can you ask from a camera phone? Anyway I still have to bake the parts to cure the paint, but I love the way they turned out. Now it is just waiting to get new gaskets and other parts associated with them. Plans for when I swap that stuff out are as follows:

-Gasket kit from atkins
-new injector grommets and o-rings
-new seals and gaskets for the 6-port actuators
-atkins 6-port rods
-clean anything that I can to make it all pretty again

I hope there is at least someone out there enjoying the progress lol, I am still trying to diagnose my weird vibration issue at RPM's above 4k. My parts I ordered from Mazdatrix should be in Thursday, so Friday I should be able to get it all swapped out and try again. After being in my buddy's GTUs with a full RB exhaust and otherwise stock engine, I am just dying to drive mine through the full RPM range. Even for a stock S5 GTUs, it pulled really nice. Even with a slipping clutch. Maybe my S4 was just super slow hahaha.

it's nice to see such attention to detail. i always aim for perfection whenever starting a project and end up getting impatient and just going with the most effective method.. which usually doesn't leave much room for making things pretty and perfect ha ha

Did a little experimental paint work today on my wheels to give them new life. I really love the way the one I did came out, so I'm going to do them all most likely tomorrow night (after prom -_-) to make them match. And also I might paint the center cap the same color as the wheel. I used the Duplicolor gunmetal-ish wheel paint and then the duplicolor stainless steel paint on the center caps. Then duplicolor clear over it all. It could have turned out better IMO, but for my first time painting a wheel (and admittedly no primer >_<) I think it came out good enough. Let me know your thoughts!

Match the center caps to the wheels or the wheels to the caps, pick one.

Also, are those manifolds actually blue or is that the distortion you were referring to?

They're actually blue. I'm not the one who painted them though, those were a gift so im just not gonna complain about em

finished up the rest of the wheels last night, turned out great! although some of the industrial cleaner never quite came out of the fake lugs on the center caps until they all sat on the car overnight and caused some of the paint to already come off... Touch ups are needed but not a big deal.

I wasn't able to make it out, I'm still waiting on my new release bearing from RB to come in before I swap out everything on the trans. I REALLY hope that fixes all the RPM based vibration problems I've been having.

Anyway, another DIY update. Decided to wash the car after it rained today, then decided after that to clean the interior, then decided after that to do all the DIY fixes i've been meaning to for a while while I was in there already. Didn't get everything done, but got most of the major fixes out of the way.

The door sills were looking pretty haggard, so I took em off, cleaned them with prep spray, then repainted them with duplicolor trim paint. Turned out awesome. Top sill is after, bottom sill is before.

Then did the same for the rest of the fading trim pieces. I want to point out, by the way, to NOT use prep spray on any soft plastic materials. It WILL take the soft plastic CLEAN off. Luckily I only used it on the vents above the logicon, and I was able to fix it with some coats of trim paint, but it looked TERRIBLE before I painted it. And the worst part was these are new-to-me good condition vents, and werent even going to be painted. I just used the spray to help clean off the dust and ended up doing all the damage.

I also now need to get another plastic piece that secures the whole lighter assembly into place since I was a little too rough on it and broke both clips. not that they weren't that good to begin with, but whatever.

Hopefully soon I will have better updates of me doing more than just cleaning things and repainting them. I know they are kinda boring :P

I revved to 8k this morning

Pulled and all-nighter with the person who bought my GXL and we dropped the trans, and replaced everything that I've been talking about lately. Even put in a better-condition prop-shaft. (Sanded, self-etching primer, stainless steel "look" paint, then clear coated) It looks like a aluminum shaft almost :P

I am so joyed about this it is amazing. For the first time since I've owned the car I have been able to let it breathe and sing it's full 8000 rpm song. The culprit? That god damn Pilot bearing. When I have a chance to post pics I will. That things was

Did a little brake upgrade yesterday, only the fronts though since we ran out of time to do the rears. Trying to get everything done to get ready for autocross on the 24th.

Since they were dirty, decided to clean them and repaint them. Did a self etching primer, then a primer. Few coats of each. This was after a good power wash and masking off the pistons and boots.

Then after some debate with whether or not to do black or red lettering, i decided to go with red. I really like the way it pops off the base coats of stainless steel. The stainless steel looking paint from the auto stores that is. I really like the way it turned out and looks as caliper paint.

And finally all done with a few coats of clear, letting it dry for a couple hours, and reassembling them.

And finally installed on the car. The soft lines are pretty new so I didnt see a reason to replace them. Discs are also in good condition.

Love the calipers! I plan to do my calipers red with white on the 'mazda' letters. What kind of paint did you use for the letters??

The silver with red letters is growing on me, though.

I used Testors super gloss red acrylic enamel. And yea it was really a split second decision, but i really like yhe outcome

Had my friend put in some work while i was at work yesterday. Pulled the CEL codes and replaced the broken TPS. Car now drives way better from every angle and then he finished my brake upgrade. Even though I call it an upgrade, realize its just the oem brakes from my old GXL you'll see in the picture. Next up is the tires. I'm going with 205/60 goodyear eagle GT tires for a few reasons. 1) i cannot fit direzza star specs as a 50 profile since the diameter difference is 6.59% 2) Advan A048 tires in my size are $220 each, so that is way out of budget 3) I am the only person in ES, so I'm not exactly competing 4) my dad gets a deal on all goodyear tires throuh work so it would be a good tire super cheap.

In 7 days time, i will be competing in my first ever auto x
