Now i'm debating between going with Haltech or Maxxecu ECU
I've tested both software, they are both great, maybe Maxxecu is a bit more easier
Haltech R3 is a beast with is integrated PDM, simplify your wiring, I like this idea... A bit pricier but better ?
I'm still here, ordering parts and working on the car when I have time.
Quick update with pictures :
Made my first PTFE line ! Bit of nightmare
New stainless screw
Say no to rust
Removing all the stud
Nice and clean !
My girl (Attila)
Side project, I'm restoring my first moped (Peugeot XPLC 50cc on the left) and my father give me his first bike (Yamaha DT125LC on the right)
I've also ordered some parts from JDLMFG, fuel pump hanger and RX8 throttle pedal adapter !
A little bit surprise by the communication with JDL, never said Hello or Hi is it a French things to be polite (it's okay haha)?
+ why he didn't said to me he didn't have plug ? He gave me Orb adapter but I've previously ordered them, so now I need to buy plug
Now I'm waiting black friday (and money on my account) to order my ECU. I'm going with Haltech R3, I really like the PDM function.
Second post to split pic

Au revoir
I've been using MaxxECU for 5 years and love it. Solid hardware, great software, and very good support/firmware upgrades.
My setup is a twin turbo V8, not rotary, but I know they do have rotary support. I'm also using the Maxx to run a DCT. It packs a lot of features for the money.
I have the MaxxECU Pro and their PDM20, which are definitely overkill for most. A PDM is nice to have, but honestly doesn't do a whole lot more than you can do cheaply with solid-state and conventional relays IMO.
The only Haltech experience I have is with my IC7 and the Nexus software. I'm not a fan of the software, at least compared to Maxx. It can definitely work, though.
Maxx now has free 8HP trans control, too. I'm switching to an 8HP70 soon to try it out.
I'm rarely on RX7Club anymore, but PM me if you have any MaxxECU-specific questions.
i'm getting old, my first dirt bike had drum front and rear brakes, 1980 suzuki RM125.
I'm 27 and my dad is 53 ! His first bike is this DT125LC, when he was 16yo, at 20yo he bought a Honda CX 650, and at 45yo we bought him his dream bike Honda VFR750 RC36 !

Thanks for your feedback ! I've downloaded and tested both software, Maxx is easier to use, for sure.
Going for Haltech seems a good option, more feedback and experience from the rotary people. I can add UC10 later too (with MaxxECU also).
I'm not in a hurry for this build, I bought product I like and are "modern". Going for PDM route is modern, maybe more reliable. Nexus R3 is cheaper VS MaxxECU Race + PDM20...
But, at the moment, I don't have the money to buy either one
March update :
Transmission :
I'm using MAD Bushing kit 85A. Somebody recommended it to me !
Very nice kit, good communication with Murray
Before After sandblasting and powder-coating
Lower bushing is upside down here
Thanks to someone on social media, now it's in good orientation
Now i'm gonna talk about my starter !
Diameter of this piece, shaft, is different between RX8 and my OEM FC starer. RX8 one is larger and won't fit in the gear So what i've done, i've swap the shaft. I removed the shaft from the RX7 rotor and put it on RX8 rotor. After a lot of trouble (finding why it doesn't fit...) my 2KW starter is now ready !
I've ordered some stuff for my ECU and power wiring. i should receive it asap.
Next step is to make new PTFE oil line (oil cooler to engine)
Thanks for keeping the log going. I'm starting to rebuild my old '87 T2 and am going to be running a Nexus R3 as well. My progress is also slow going due to family commitments.

Thanks Tristan !
Family first
I'm not a dad myself but last year one of my cat was seek, and we had a very big bill from the vet..
+ all part for rx7 are pretty expensive, so yeah, building a car is slow but the reward is priceless
Good luck with your build
I will post update on my wiring, ecu and tuning of this Haltech R3, so far so good
