13Browtarded Hybrid Turbo Engine Build For Drift/Track/Dailydriver

Hello everyone,

I have here one spectacular build for you. (Not really but lots and lots of time and thought put into it) Today I will be posting about how I have transformed this car. Some may say I have wrecked the car and some may say that I have done great things to it. But all in all I have been putting together a master piece of my own. Something that I have been dreaming about for many years.

So to get this started. I have here a 1986 Mazda Rx7 Base of the base model. Everything is manual from windows to locks to steering. It was purchased back in March of 2009 my senior year of high school. When I went to go look at the car I just knew I had to buy it and there was no turning back with it having 54,000 miles on the tachometer.

So after purchasing this car I knew I needed to start acquiring info about this car since I did not know much about it. At the time I was living with my uncle which is a ASE certified mechanic that knew very little of the car and disproved of it due to the rotary, but I was determined to have this car. So I knew if I wanted a good sports car I would need to read up on it and figure out what I may want to do with the car. But I didn't know as for where to start. First I started doing all the nooby things asking about turboing NA block and all the common stuff you see from day to day. Finally I acquired some great info from some very informed people. Not only that but landed some great deals on few parts which set me on my way.

First was these ricy *** wheels. Older style enkis dont remember the model. But landed a solid deal on these for cheap and being my first car I wanted to stand out. And well it sure did.

Second was Eibach larger sway bars front and rear.

Then came drop springs from tanabe. Which these things for the price was great!

Also picked up a set of XXr 522s pictured above also.

Once I started modifying the suspension I started to feel the progress at my toes and seeing the difference at how the car sat. It made me feel much more passionate about the car and the feel of the drive.

After some time I came across a deal for some Megan coilovers used for $500. I couldn't pass up the deal but being a broke college student at the time I broke the bank. But I was happy and that's what mattered at the time.

After installing these bad boys I started getting into autocross and drifting the car. It performed horrible in both due to being under powered s4 na bone stock block and straight piped back to eBay mufflers. It was still fun and I was learning a bunch about the car.
Now sometime later being about 2 years or so I started learning what all I wanted to do with the car and researching more about turbos and porting along with everything else to make more power. I decided I wanted to turbo the stock block. Which I never got around to. Instead I am now building something special but that's to come later on. But I started acquiring parts to turbo such as; Turbo II intake S5 lower to eliminate EGR and S4 upper intake with a ported throttle body, 550cc low impedance injectors from turbo S4, S5 Turbo II fuel rails, Intercooler (interfooler), n332 ecu, S4 turbo that needed rebuilt. By then I had acquired almost everything needed.

I ended up installing the turbo II intake and porting it to the block to match the 6 ports. Came out very nice.

During the process of acquiring and installing all the intake parts I also changed to newer xxr 531s which my car currently is sitting on until I get home and install my new wheels.

Since then I have joined the military and the car has change visually a lot more. I have installed stock duck bill in rear. Lowered rear more to even it out from corner to corner and remove the rake. And installed a new but used motor in. Previous motor decided it wanted to freeze up in -60 degree weather back home while I was at basic and cracked some coolant passages in block.

Old Block

Now I am stationed in Vegas and Loving it! Don't have to ever worry about the block freezing again! But since I have moved here I have upgraded the headlights, installed 240sx front lip, gp1 sideskirts and rear bumper. Also rocking a cusco bolt-in cage. It was a 7 point cage but removed dash bars so now it is a 4 or 5 point cage. Cusco front and rear strut bars. Vented hood for cooling. (helps a ton in 100+ degree weather!) A new bride Artis III seat along with a takata 4 point harness to hold me in the seat. Yokima roof rack is now also installed on roof to expand space for carrying items since the cae takes up all the room now.

Since then I have been deployed almost 6 months to the middle east. I have been acquiring many new parts to do a massive turbo build. As well as purchase a few visual/aero items for the car.

Now I am on the brink of coming home to overfenders for front, new set of srr ms1 wheels, 4 port turbo irons, adaptronic ecu, pbm angle kit(being ordered once I'm on US soil) and coilovers, S5 unported lower intake, Borg warner EFR 8374 (thanks to lookatme), Hks cast manifold, Tial 44mm wg, Greddy front mount intercooler, light weight flywheel, turbo II transmission to na differential axle, aeromotive fuel pressure regulator, stealth 340lph pump, 10 micron filter, and a S5 stock GXL seat that is very clean to go with the Bride seat.

The whole plan is to build a 4 port Turbo block with S4 NA rotating assembly with boost pushing 400-450hp. Lots more to come.

Once I arrive home I will be updating this much more. especially since I have many parts waiting to be installed or used to build new motor.

Thanks for looking at my excessively long post that took me some time to type up. It's great to show others what you can accomplish if you work hard to achieve it! All this has been a lot of dedication of blood sweat and tears. And more is to come if I ever plan to achieve this goal with finishing this car!

Well I have came home and have lots to update on the thread. So far I have upgraded suspension and installed super angle kit from part shop max. I also was able to pull out old motor and fix all the leaks it had. Cleaned it up and reinstalled it. But before I put it back in I was able to do a little test fitting and very pleased with all the parts fitment on the car. I will be updating with photos later this evening with many more details to come.

Stay tuned in for more info!

A little teaser of the new angle mods. Also installed bunch new items. Motor is still sitting and collecting dust while I am still aquiring parts. Shouldn't be long and I'll have it up and running under boost.

This is a big update sorry took so long but have been very busy.

To explain a bit of what is going on above.

When I got back, I made a trip home to Michigan and ended up buying a new truck. And in the process a Buddy of mine bought an Rx3 from Mass. Really nice car for the year. We drove from Michigan to almost Boston and from there to Vegas. It was a long 3 days!

I finally got to installing parts. Now just about everything for aero has been installed. Still have few more things to install/make but time will come for that.

I installed Part Shop Max super angle kit and competitive coilovers. Loving how they feel and how much angle you are able to achieve through this setup! Only thing I had a problem with was how far my wheel got pushed out from the kit in front. So I originally bought some vented over fenders that where +30mm. Ended up selling them asap since they fit like crap. And ended up buying some RMAGIC over fenders for the front.

Pulled the old motor out to fix some leaks. Come to find out my trans was leaking from both front and back. So I cleaned up both trans and motor. Made it look all nifty. Also cleaned up engine bay a bit by moving components around. Eliminated the MAF since the motor now has a new brain. All powered by Adaptronics pnp ecu currently. May switch over to Haltech later on.

I managed to do some test fitting with the new turbo block setup. I was very surprised with the clearance the cast HKS manifold offers for such a big turbo setup. I was able to fit the borg warner EFR 8374 EWG on the manifold with much clearance available.

Picked up a new fan setup and Koyo radiator. Loving it so far! Keeps the car cool and have yet to see it raise like it did with stock setup. Big test will be this summer in the Vegas heat. Went with a black Magic fan setup. So far it's nice and handy. Pulls a lot of air and has thermo sensor for automatic turnon.

Last pictures are of all the parts I collected while I was deployed. I was so happy when I came home. It felt like Christmas day with all the packages I got to open! So worth every penny!

And lastly for this update. I managed to land a spot with OMG Drift and get a photo shoot done with two other buddies. My buddy Zach with a sick AF 240sx on wisefab and Ian with a slammed blue 280z that's boosted. If any of you guys follow drifting you'll probably know who I speaking of. More pictures to come with that! My picture don't even compare to what OMG Drift manage to get shots of!

Little update for turbo motor build. Just finished ordering goopy apex seals and mazda side seals. Also ordered oil system parts to increase oil flow. I'm getting excited to finally build this block. Still got to order studs for the block and port the motor. Hopefully everything will be together end of may begining of june. Then to gather more parts.
