Did you remove the side molding yourself or was it done when you got the car? If you did it how did you go about it? I'm tempted to try it but don't want to ruin the paint.

Cool thanks, I'll look into that in the spring.

Got SE rear ends and tranz' I'll be swappin. Hopefully I can make something happen where I can go to h2oi again this year

I was lucky enough to have got the car without the bump strips. but i think its just a glue or good quality double sided tape of some sort. i imagine some heat and a plastic non-maring scraper would do the trick.

They actually make a nice little 'eraser' to take that moulding off. It fits on a drill and its almost an eraser type material. It doesnt effect the paint either.

I would give my first born for a set of those struts. Guess it's time I try this. I need to add some travel to my frontend.

Molding removal=
Plastic putty knife (or metal, wrapped in masking tape, some people even use dental tape/floss!) and douche it with Windex! (NO heat needed) Srsly, works like a charm!! (clean-up any residue with an eraser-wheel) DONE. OP, I F'N <3<3<3 your FB man!! It's what I've always had in mind for my next one... Sub'd. -Will some PLZ trade Me their FB for my FC?!?!?! |
looks great bro!

Hey guys so now that i have my car out of storage for the season and am graduated from university i'm back at the rx7 again. i've got some things cooking in my head about what to do and have been collecting a bunch of parts.
so to start it off. these are the parts i've picked up so far. - ZG fender flares - hitachi HT18S-BM turbo (JDM 12a) - hitachi HT18 turbo (s4) - 12at exhaust mani (JDM) - 12at intake mani (JDM) - stock nikki - GSL-SE front rotors - -SE front calipers - -SE hawk HP+ pads - -SE back plates - -SE front mount oil cooler - 81 GS with running 12a now to post some pics. here is the difference between the JDM 12a turbo and the S4 turbo. there is a large difference in the turbine housings. and is very clear to see why the JDM turbo hits full boost at 2000rpm and the s4 doesn't until much later. Attachment 717450 Attachment 717451 Attachment 717452 and the difference between the compressors. the compressor on the s4 is larger in all aspects. Attachment 717453 here are the flares. most of you have seen these before. Attachment 717454 the front brake conversion parts, exhaust mani and oil cooler. Attachment 717455 the JDM intake is a really nice piece because the primary intake runners are casted closer to the engine making more room for the turbo. however i've run into a little problem that the JDM intake was a 3 valve setup and the nikki is a 4 barrel. you can see the aluminum adapter plate i've started making that will accommodate the 4 barrel onto the 3 barrel intake. Attachment 717456 And last here is the parts car i just picked up today. Attachment 717457 its not pretty but i'm planning on ripping the 12a out of it and parting out the rest most likely. (please don't start asking for parts on this thread, i'll post a part out in the for sale section when i'm ready to part out) This engine will be put on a stand and all the turbo components will be fitted and tested on it then installed on my 84 grey rx7. thanks for reading, i'll update as soon as i have more. |
Looking great, I always end up fabbing adapter plates to bolt neat stuff together as well. It might be worth your while to go the megasquirt route using a gsl-se throttle body on that 12at intake. I love working with modded nikki carbs, but EFI would give you a lot more room to grow.
If you get a second with a tape measure, how much arch width gain do the zg flares give on the rear? Isaac |

isaac the fenders give around 2" extra on the front and rear. i'm hoping to run 15x10's all around. maybe a little wider. not sure yet. i have to get them mocked up. i'm probably going to mock them up on my parts car first.

Hell yeah man. What other sizes are there for flares? I've seen 2in ones only cuz I'm running 15x9 front and 15x11 in back soon and wanted wider one for the rear. Good luck sir on the rest of the build!

That is the nicest 1st gen ive seen! I have those same DRW, i have the drum setup and theres two screws on them that restrict my wheels from sitting flush against the mounting surface what do you think the best way to mitigate that without going to disc?! Help for a fellow first gen!
|
Remove the screws. The lugs and wheel will keep the drum in place. Either that or take the drums to a machine shop and have them countersink the holes (or do it yourself) and then use bolts with a countersink head.
This thing is going to be even more awesomer (requires poor grammar to express level of awesomeness) than it was before. Any idea what wheels your going to go with to fit the flares? |
Sweet car dude! Never thought rocking a setup like this in ottawa was possible with the roads n all haha
Where do you go to uni? |
